Weird colored sock thing?
Sonic, my mini yearling colt was born soild bay out of a bay appysnowflake mare and and smokey brown stallion. Although, as he got older he has turned into a similar smokey brown color like his sire (Well he is sorta bewtween bay and smokey brown). Well, over winter I noticed on the inside on his left ankle he developed a perfect white spot. i figured it was probably appy related or something.
As she shed out I noticed he has a band of lighter creme coloring over that same ankle. At first it kinda looked like a patch of winter hair that hadn't fallen out yet but I touched it and it is not any left over winter fuzz, it's his real hair.
He still has the white spot, but it's less obvious now with the lighter color surrounding it. So what could this be? If it's anything :b
Oh and these pictures aren't the greatest. I had either brown grass or gray gravel to stand him in and both settings really muted the color on his legs, but hopefully you can get an idea. The last picture it just looks like a very dirty white sock but that is the natural color and it is very obvious in real life (I may try standing him on a blue tarp or something and get some pictures to help show the intesnity of the color)
never seen that before, but its cool ,lol!
It looks to me like the other hind has a similar sock going on too?
Kinda. It's lighter around the coronet but not as pronounced as the other, it's more blended. His front legs don't have anything unusual.
I just saw a horse for sale at Hemphill's in Vassalboro Maine, that has the same coloring on it's leg. Strange isn't it???
Sonic is the first horse I've ever seen have this before. I think I found a website with a gallery of unexplanined horse markings. I might send these pictures to them and see if they have any idea.
U'll have to let us know what they say!
