Some jump position critique from other eventers?

Just curious to hear some feedback on my jumping position.
We had a small clear round jumper show at teh farm the other day and Ace and I did the 3'3" and 3'6".

You are more advanced than me, so I should probably just say you look fabulous :D but..

MAYYYYBEEE you could be a tad closer to the saddle, and you MAYYYYBEEE have a 'hunter butt' in the last pic but don't quote me.

Still Fab ;)

PS. I'm jealous of your leg!!!

i would say that you could be closer to the saddle, your a bit to far in front of the saddle, go for centre of balance, also i would release more like a few more inches up the neck

BUT your legs are great!!!!

Not an eventer anymore, but, I think your butt could be a tad closer to the saddle. But I envy your leg, its realllly good! You look really secure.
I may be wrong, but since you look really stable, perhaps you could start using an automatic release.

That's what I was thinking! It would help a lot with her release, since she needs a few inches more anyway. (Idk, 2-4")

Bringing your body closer as well, but other than that, it looks wonderful! :)

I could see having more release (with hands) if the reins were shorter, but they aren't. Strange isn't interfering with her horses mouth at all. Definitely time to start working on an automatic release if you feel comfortable enough.

You do look like your butt is a far ways away from the saddle, but it also looks like you have a fairly long upper leg. Your leg position looks amazing, and although you hover a bit more above the saddle then what is seen, it looks like it works for you.

Then last fence, you must have gotten just slightly ahead of your horse, since you are *just* over your pommel, instead of bang center like the other pictures.

First and third fences look like you left at a bit of a longer spot, but not anything scary long. The second you can see your guy really stretching to get over.

Thanks everyone!

We definitely have a bit of a flirtation with the long spot sometimes, but I've gotten a lot better at seeing a better distance up to the base so it's not as often that we take off long compared to a few weeks ago. I've give Mogie a few heart attacks before. Ace also sometimes favors the long spot, which can lead to some...rather ridiculous take-off spots. For the most part, at least, when that happens we're usually on the same page, which is better than me trying to ride him backwards to the base, in my opinion.

I have been told I have a bit of a hunter butt sometimes, lol. I never feel like I'm as far out of the saddle as I look to be in pictures, and I do have really long legs, so I don't know if that's a contributing factor to my butt being so out of the saddle.

As for my release, if I were catching him in the mouth he wouldn't keep jumping the jumps, haha. He keeps me on my toes and makes sure I'm riding him well, adequately at least. I have really long arms and try to ride him on a bit of a looser rein. I would like to do more of an auto-release and occasionally I do, but I'll just have to keep that in mind when I'm jumping.

as for being out of the saddle too much and your leg, next time you go to jump overexaggerate your bend in your knee and hip and i think you'll be at the first spot.

You guys look awesome though, cant wait to get back to that height!

Wow I'm jealous, teach me to look like you! ;-) Seriously I echo what others are saying, you look very secure in that position!
