I know walking toe-to-heel is bad..but what does it really show? Is it a poor trim?

The one horse that has navicular has been walking like that today (yes I did tell it to the BO) but wanted to know if it was just from a poor trim of if this navicular was hurting alot...or a bit of both

Landing toe first is a tell tale sign of heel pain (indicative of navicular , but not all heel pain equals navicular). It's also caused by imbalanced trimiming. Long toes esp. create a flight pattern that makes it hard to land heel first, even if there is no heel pain initially.

Landing toe first causes a lot of chain reactions that cumulate over time. It's hard on the tendons, is the landing that transmits the most shock up the leg (and damages the navicular bone) and tends to cause separation of the white line at the toe. It also means the frog doesn't get enough stimulation and that makes it easier for thrush to set up.

That's the quickest, easiest explanation.

thanks barefoot....I know his toes aren't too long cause IMO his feet look great (or at least good) but he was walking toe-to-heel. I'll bring him up to the arena and let the BO actually take a look at him (I mentioned it to her last night but she was running late so not sure if she got a chance to look at him or not)...and hopefully everything will be alright. I didn't notice it while someone was riding him, but he could have been doing it (again I wasn't looking at his feet I was looking at mainly his head but whole body to see if he was lame)
