Horse Bedding

Hi Guys I just got offered a bedding for my stables. it is a mixture of woodchip and shredded paper. it is meant to be comfortable form the horse but yet have good soakage as of the shredded paper. it also holds well together because of the woodchip and it is dust free. what do you guys think ??

I think it's a good combination. Wood chips/shavings don't absorb anything but we all like the look and smell of it. Paper absorbs like crazy but it looks terrible. My favorite is phonebooks as far as absorbancy and ease of cleaning (but I miss the smell) but then they get these little bits of yellow, blue, pink and white all over the property.

I use straight shavings it works and smells good for those mares that like to pee!

I've never used paper, but I heard it clumps up when wet and can ball up in the horse's feet.

I'd be a little skeptical about the paper. Even for small animals it doesn't hold up too well or absorb much, I can't imagine it would work better for horses. And shredded paper definitely is dusty.

Ask if you can have a trial bag, or buy just a few. Wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

Shavings don't absorb much but sawdust absorbs well. If the stall drains well you don't need much sawdust. Even though it's dusty, you wouldn't put it where their gay is.
