Jaxxon: Three year old Quarterhorse
Well, I’ve had Jaxxon for a little over a year now and haven’t really gotten a critique done on him… He’s really grown a lot this past year… his legs look to have straightened out a lot and his neck looks a lot better than it did. His head ‘fits his body’ better and he looks more like a Quarterhorse and less like a rangy, underweight rag-a-muffin with horrible hooves…
So, I’ve decided to post him up and get a critique done. I know that he’s not the best put together, but he’s not absolutely horrible, either… I don’t think…
He’s not registered, and I don’t have a clue to his bloodlines, but he is a Quarterhorse.
He turned three years old June 1st.
He’s just a trail-horse… or he will be a trail-horse… He’s still green and is slightly ungainly…
Here you go:
And just so you can do it on your own. Take the link that you pasted here and look up above where you post at. You'll see a little icon/square/thing that is yellow with mountains and a little circle sun. Paste the link into that window. : ) No critique from me but hopefully this helps you get some.
First thing i notice is that his pasterns are long & have a fairly sharp slope to them.
He is a little butt high & there's something about his croup area... not sure how to explain it but it's not flat like it should be...
He looks like he'll develope into a rather nice horse though & appears solid.
Nice hocks and shape/angle of hind legs in general is very good. Pelvis angle is good and long enough. rear pasterns not too long and angle is good.
Good shoulder, not fantastic but good. Short back, though a bit sunken down
straight hind legs from rear views
NOT so good:
pasterns in front legs a bit long, just a tiny wee bit, and front left leg turned out. Behind at the knee, tho not severely so. Probably his worst conformational fault.
Neck is short and ties in a bit low. This can be improved with correct riding.
I think he is really a fairly nicley put together horse, and outside of hard jumping, he can do anything.
And lilruffian and tinylily, thanks bunches! I thought he was worse off conformationally than that...
Lilruffian, his croup... that's his butt, right... the reason it's 'bumpy' is due to lack of muscle... his butt-bone sticks up just a teensy bit, but now that I'm working him more, he's slowly gaining that nice, flat bum...
Oh the links posted. But some people will just skip them if they have to click links. I was just posting the pics to be helpful. : )
Oh, okay then. Thanks a bunch! I'm going to try and update my home computer later today, so hopefully it will speed up a little so I can post images easier.
Anyone else wanna have a crack at him?
Correct me if am wrong. Is that a slight hunter's bump i see? An his front pasterns worry me a bit, mostly in the first two pictures.
...Maybe its just me.
I don't think so... When I got him, he was underweight and his buttbone stuck out badly... since gaining that weight back, he hasn't been in much work because of his age, and he doesn't have much muscle on his bum...
I can see a major difference in his butt muscle from just a month ago and now... he's filled out a lot in the butt area, and is on his way to a nice, smooth bum...
But then again, maybe he does have a little bit of a hunters bump... exactly what is that, anyways?
