Need Horse Sicknesses, issues, etc.
I am putting together a free ebook (with my local vets help) to give to shelters so they can hand them out upon adoptions. Each sickness will have symptoms, cause, cure, etc. and so far i have (divided into Internal, Joint & Bone, Other, Hoof care, etc.)
Genetic Brain Disease (GBD)
Inflammatory Airway Disease (IAD)
Swamp Fever (Equine Infectious Anemia)
West Nile Virus (WNV)
Upward Fixation of the Knee Cap
Parts of the Hoof
Basic Hoof Care
Shedding of the Frog
White line Disease
I know that some are very rare and others very common and even normal/expected, but it's for reference purposes for adoptee's!
Thanks! You don't need to post the symptoms, cure, etc. the vet is helping me with that stuff.
-Founder is a big one I didn't see on the list.
-Also self (or pasture-mate) inflicted injury. (I know that is a broad topic but it is also VERY common.)
-Equine Herpes (BIG ONE)
-Potomac Horse Fever
That's all I can think of at the moment.
May want to include "stocking up". Not a sickness, but common and could really scare a newbie horse owner if they don't know what it is or what causes it.
oh what i would have given for more info on symptoms, cause, cure, etc.
Why a yearly coggins is so important!

Laminitis & Founder
What to do with one who gets cast in a stall
Maybe a section on vaccines needed in the area & possible reactions
Maybe AHS? African Horse Sickness... It's a biggie for us, but I have been told that some times there is a case somewhere else in the world. It's rare for other countries, but possible.
Heaves(Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
Blister Beetle Poisoning
Anhidrosis(lack of sweating)
These could be wide spectrum of possibilies, but still applicatible.
