compressed hay????
i'm just curious what everyones opinion is on compressed bales of hay.

It's really very heavy... and expensive....

I by the compressed Alfalfa for one of my older horse, purely out of convenience. I pay about $14 for it. I think if I went out and found someone selling regular bales, it would be cheaper, but it doesnt take up much space and I only give it to him as an add-on to his regular hay so only about a flake a day so it lasts along time. It's expensive though.

The stuff I found was the exact same price as all the regular bales. It was 8.69 a bale. I'm just wondering how I feed it, she normally gets two flakes in the am and two flakes in the pm. The lady where I bought it told me to only feed one flake instead of two, does that sound right??

I would ask someone at a local feed store....

I got it from IFA and thats what they told me.

farmpony84 06-05-2008 01:59 PM

i give the same amount i normally would, if i give 2 flakes i give 2 flakes, 2 compressed flakes are about the size of half a regular flake... i don't know, I geuss I'd try what the lady told you? I would hope she knows what shes' talking about but who knows....?

Wouldn't this be the time to weigh your hay.... 15# of regular hay would weigh the same as 15 # or compressed hay right....

I'm not trying to be a smart a$$... I don't use compressed hay but with other things... a pound is a
