My New Favorite Bit

Okay, so Rebel is the horse who kinda got me hooked on this bit. I was at a lesson with him on day and I had just been riding him in the snaffle, but he's too old to show in a snaffle.

My trainer walked into the tack room and brought this out:

Sorry for the fail pic, I took it when it was dark inside with the flash.

I really love it. It swivels on cheeks and there's little to no pinching. It's broken in the middle so I find if I hook my reins to the side rings instead of the shanks I can get the effect of the snaffle, or obviously the use of the shanks.

So since Rebel responded so well to it, I tried using it one my litte reining mare Selena. Versus her bracing against the bit she had been doing before, I found her very relaxed and not fighting me as much in this.

Just thought I'd share. I don't know what brand it is, but that looks like on of the Myler mouthpieces to me, so I assume its Myler? Like I said, my Trainer bought it, and had the tags off long before I ever got my hands on it.

So I guess that means if anyone has any more information on it I'd love to hear :D

It looks like a Billy Allen bit to me (very similar design to Myler, but the barrel over the joint is generally a bit bigger and I haven't seen any of Myler's with the rings by the mouthpiece).

I have to agree that the mouthpiece on those was one of the most ingenious ideas ever invented by a horseman. I have one of these and I love it (I'm not a huge fan of longer shanks, I like mine less than 7 inches). It offers a level of feeling between my hands and the horse's mouth that I've never found with a solid bit, but it doesn't have the normal nutcracker effect of a broken bit.

I also just found this one that's similar but the cheeks are a bit flashier. I really like the looks of it as well.

That's no Myler, for sure. Any chance you can post a bigger picture? Is it ported at all, or is it just a swivel hinge in the middle?

I'll try and get something tomorrow, I accidently left it in my friends truck...Whoops.
