Very new to reining..
I was lunging my horse yesterday and he has a potential to be a reiner, he was doing some awesome pivots and he just looked like a reiner! How can I teach him the sliding stops and spins? He has an excellent stop, but its not a sliding stop. Thank you!
Find a trainer. If you have never taught a reiner before, seeking help through a post on a forum won't help you. Reining is incredibly complex and you can easily ruin a horse if it is done incorrectly.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but what makes you think your horse has the ability to be a reiner? It's not just one thing the horse happens to be good at and I cannot tell you how many people get into reining and don't have a clue. But don't worry, there's always someone out there willing to take your money!
I've had several reining horses that were bred for the sport. It's about good conformation and natural ability. And to be really honest, it's about money and in my opinion, there is a lot of abuse. I no longer do reining with my truly talented horse so what I really want to tell you is to find something else to do with your nice horse!
