Stall bound horse.

Hello all I hope there is someone out there that has a solution to my dilemma :?

My horse cannot go outside atm because she gets attacked by flys, mosquito's you name it. It's like she has a *bite me here* homing beacon strapped to her back.

I hand walk her outside for 10 min so she can stretch, snatch at some grass, and get some "fresh" air when i'm not riding her. But that's about all she can take. She does have a fly mask, I have tried repellants, and skin so soft. The skin so soft works, but about 10 min after I get her outside the bugs start getting to her. Her ears get the worst of it poor thing.

Does anyone know of a brand that WORKS? I don't care what the cost is, it breaks my heart to see my mare so uncomfortable.

P.S yes I used the search function, learned all about apple cider, she has an automatic waterer so that's out of the question.

First, buy her a fly sheet, they have allll kinds of fly stuff you could use. Masks, sheets, even boots. Endure is a great fly spray but it's pricey. One that I usually use is Bronco. It's pretty cheap but it works and smells nice.

There are tons of stuff like this that you can order..

Thanks so much, i'll get the endure, and i'll get her fitted for a full body fly sheet and booties, she should look interesting lmao. Only good thing is that fly/bug season is nearly over thank goodness.:-)

Acutally out of the 2 you posted, Bronco and Endure, which one works better?

*Forgot to add that i'm new to this horse owning business, so please forgive my stupidity...

Garlic Flakes - Equine Respiratory Supplements from SmartPak Equine

i have heard garlic helps as well. although i've never tried it.

lol That's fine! Yes, I'm sure she'll look pretty funny but hey, whatever works. I would try the Bronco first just to see if you like it before you spend more on the Endure and it not work. Hate to see you waste money. Start with the cheapest and go from there. lol I went through that and really have good results with the Bronco.

Hmm not too sure about dosing her with garlic, I would prefer using tried and true methods of prevention, vs guessing.

If I havto swaddle her from nose to tail in protective clothing that's what I will do to keep those pesky bugs at bay!

@DrumRunner: Great, i'll try the bronco first, thanks so much for your suggestions =)

You're welcome, glad I could help. I know how much fly season sucks. I'm from wayy south and they are soo bad here.

Ugh I feel for you, I passed through GA with my ex when we were travelling through the U.S.A, it was end of summer but the bugs were baaad. Anywhere it's humid the bugs are the worst!

I haven't had much luck with Bronco, but I'm sure the flies are different everywhere you go. But in my experience, the cheaper the fly spray, the poorer it works. Manna Pro has been practically useless for me too.

I like "Pyranha Wipe N' Spray" the best of the ones I've tried. I have also heard Endure is good, but I have never tried it myself. After trying tons of fly sprays, including herbals (because who really wants to put poisons on their horse?) I will now only buy the Pyranha. Everything else has been a disappointment and a waste of hard earned money.

Ha! Excellent another one to put on my list! Thank you Trailhorserider =)
