Anyone here have snakes?
I would love to hear what kind of snakes you have, if you have them.
Six months ago, I was scared of them... Now, I have about seventeen. They are absolutely wonderful. I am so happy I am no longer afraid of these magnificent creatures.
Wow - that is a lot of snakes to get in such a short period! I hope you have researched them well and know what you are getting into - especially the ones that can end up really large.
I would love a pet snake someday, but my husband does not agree with me on that at all.
I have a Columbian Red Tail Boa, Ball Python, and Savu Python.
Love my snakes, but love my two Bearded Dragons even more!
Hah, it is mostly the fault of my dear wonderful boyfriend. He is a veritable reptile encyclopedia. He has been keeping, breeding, and caring for snakes for many many years. He is the reason I am no longer afraid. It is amazing what knowledge does to fears.
We don't have anything that gets huge, yet. When my boyfriend and I get an apartment, we will be looking into one of the larger species, like a Burmese, but not just yet. None of ours will get more than 10 - 12 feet. Most, not even that. 11 of the 17 are very small species, comparatively.
MY babies will only get a few feet long, and are wonderfully short, fat and slow. These are the sand boas. I just need an anery and an albino to "complete the set". Goodness I love them.
The baby hognoses(my boyfriend's favorites) are the cutest little things. They are about 9 inches long at the moment and think they are cobras.
We have a pair of bull snakes that I adore. The female is a hypo about 7ft long, and just a gem. The male is a white sided, and is a little more skittish than the female. They are both gorgeous.
Other than that we have a few carpet pythons, and a lovely female RTB.
I wish I did! But my parents don't agree:-| Someday I'll have at least one:lol:
I find Carpet Pythons have some of the most beautiful markings.
I've had at least 1 snake in my life since the age of 9 (I'm 22 now) my first one was a Garter Snake that I had for 9 years and who was so precious to me. I've had a corn snake (who escaped and now lives under my house, the deserter haha) a king snake who, un fortunately was bought sick and passed away just a few days after purchase, 1 burmese who I loooooved but got to be just over 8ft and was startng to freak my mom out lol, a red tailed boa who was a super witch lol and now I have my beloved ball python Pantelaimon (named after a character in Phillip Pullman's book The Golden Compass). Thats him in the pic I posted :) I heart him lol he's such a sweety!
A little pre-warning to owning a Burmese, prepare for their size. They can get up to over 18ft and you'll have to adjust his prey to his size so eventually he'll go from eating rats to rabbits and even small pigs if he gets over 20ft. I miss my burmese but I'm glad I didn't get to the "rabbit" stage yet. Also, I would not advise having them in a house with children below the age of 8. There was an incident where a guy's burmese got out of its cage in the night and strangled and was eating his young daughter when he discovered it. I heard the 911 call and it was just awful so, just to be on the safe side, no snakes over 5ft around children! and even then, super close supervision for the kid and the snake's sake.
Do you have any pics of your snakes? :)
I grew up with ball pythons and little garter snakes. I'd love to get another because I think they're awesome creatures and now I am no longer living with someone who is terrified of them. Post more pictures!
I have been dreaming of owning a corn snake forever!
I love them, but my family really disagrees.
