My daughter and I got a late start on Saturday but managed to get to the Brookfield trail system by 3:00 pm on Saturday. We set up camp and headed out for a short 5.5 mile ride. Got back and made dinner in the Dutch Oven. Woke up the next day and trailered 5 miles to the Madison County Fairgrounds(which is another section of the trail system) and participated in the ACTHA event. 8 mile ride with 6 judged obstacles. My daughter took 2nd in the junior division, and I took 5th in the pleasure division. Headed back to the camp site, broke camp and went home. Learned a few things, but one was that we need to get EZ boots for the horses if we are going to spend any time at Brookfield. Our trails around here have really no stones. Brookfield is loaded. We had no lameness or tender footed problems, but it was a concern for me. We managed to get 14 miles in over the weekend. Not a lot and certainly not what I had hoped for, but probably the best for our barefoot horses.
We are planning a two night trailer camping trip in October at the Otter Creek trail system near Lowville NY in the Adirondacks.
Looks like our back country trip is cancelled this year (sorry Allison Finch, won't be able to post pics of the awesome canvas panniers this year) The trails run along the base of the mountains and the rainfall we have gotten this late summer has been way over normal. The trails are knee deep in mud.
Here are the pics.

Id love to go camping with my horses
Photos look great. That little horse shelter is a neat idea:D
It look like you both had good fun.
That looks like so much fun! I would do anything to go camping with my horse, I'm very jealous. :-D
Lovely pictures and dinner looked tasty as well. LOL
Calm, I was just thinking that . That stew looks delish. Looks like you guys had a ton of fun and I would gladly take some of the rain off your hands, if for no other reason than getting the burn ban lifted so that we could have a campfire and go camping ourselves :D.
Good photos. But and not to be a wet blanket, what about bears and the such like, do you experence problems with predator type animals. Just wondering.
