Advice on Preparing Horse for Trailer!
So I just sold my horse, and on Saturday the buyers are coming with their trailer to pick her up. I am SO nervous. The thing is, she has trailered fine every time I've loaded her, except for the first time I ever saw her load when I bought her (go figure) and it was SCARY. Her previous owner loaded her up and she freaked out and broke her halter and the trailer tie and escaped from the trailer and went galloping off. Ever since then, though, she's trailered perfectly normally. I am a little uncomfortable because when the buyer asked me how she trailers, I said she trailers well, because according to her previous owner that episode was the ONLY time she had ever done such a thing, and the other two times I loaded her after that she was fine as well. But because of that experience, I am TOTALLY paranoid that something bad will happen when I try to load her in to the new owner's trailer. So I was wondering if you guys had any advice on getting her to trailer well, just to be on the safe side? I was thinking of maybe lunging her for a while beforehand so that she wouldn't be as wound up... any other ideas?
PS -- am I the only one with anxiety like this? I'd imagine it to be a pretty frequent thing, actually, since a lot of horses can be somewhat unpredictable.
