My New Saddle - WOOT WOOT
I usually hang out in the trail riding area but since I just got a new rig I thought I'd try a post here.
As you can see it's an aussy style but still has a horn. By switching to this rig from my roper I dropped 25 pounds off the weight the horse is carrying. That weight will come in handy when camping off the horses. Maybe I won't feel so bad about smuggling in a steak and potato instead of all freeze dried food
The pic is from our rider's education booth over this past weekend at a Back Country Horsemen fundraiser. Over 300 people came through for our free educational articles, trail maps, and how to displays.
For the saddle's FIRST ride I took it on a twenty mile ride into the Lakes Wilderness. on Tuesday. 20 miles, and 8 hours of saddle time later, both the horse and I are still walking and happy. No sore spots on his back and a nice sweat pattern. I guess I could say the same for my butt :-)
Here's pics of our destination Waptus Lake - you can see more of the area here -
I'm glad you like it.:-)
Is that you in the picture? Whoever it is is pretty.
What kind of horse owns those ear tips?
It looks really comfy! Glad it is working out well.
Glad you and your horse like your new saddle. Looks like you have some pretty places to ride.
The better half, my wife is featured in the booth picture, I'm in the photo on the screen. The ear tips would belong to LT my Tennessee Walker who doesn't have much of a gait ( I call him my walker that doesn't) but is one heck of a mountain horse. Very sure footed and level headed both very good things when you ride on mountain sides most of the time. We ride primarily in the Central Cascades where it's just beautiful.
Here's a better picture of LT this time in a place called Conrad Meadows
And of the Wife's Icelandic at Stafford Creek
I'm very happy for you, love the photos!
So, what brand of Aussie is it? Looks very nice.
I guess I should have mentioned that.
It's a Bushmaster Poley by Syd Hill & Sons out of Australia. I got it from Down Under Saddle Supply. If you click here and then on the down under link ( on the right) you can see more about it
You and your wife look very well mounted! Nice horses and so smart to wear helmets out there... thanks for sharing some great pics!
Aussie saddles are amazing. I have had 2 and I loved them. Sorry they didn't fit my new horse - I'd still have them!
