Lessons! At long last!

Anyone who stuck with me through this thread:

may be interested to know that I FINALLY am getting lessons!!!

It's been what? A month since I made the first call, but luckily my dad is good friends with one of the trainer's good friends and he was able to set us up.

First lesson is this weekend. It's taken one heck of a long time, but I'm pretty sure it will be well worth it.

That's great, All! I hope you have a wonderful lesson. Look forward to hearing all about it! :D

First lesson today. I could not be more glad that I am finally getting help from this trainer. She is so helpful, friendly, knowledgable and experienced. She is exactly what I need. Already I can feel my confidence starting to improve. I don't feel fear or unconfidence when I'm with her-if she tells me to do something, I don't even question that it might not be possible because if she said I can do it, then I know I can.

She also said that she didn't think I was doing all that badly, and then when I told her that I always just THINK I'm doing horribly, she said that my ability to criticize myself and ask "What am I doing wrong?" is a very good thing, and it's a very trainer-like state of mind. She said a lot of people would have just looked at the horse and said: "This is a crappy horse" instead of figuring out what they were doing wrong.

Another lesson next week, I cannot wait.

Great news, glad you enjoyed the lesson! Don't forget that part of learning is - like the trainer said - being able to criticize yourself but to become stronger you have to challenge yourself and move forward with what you can change. Don't beat yourself up and look back at how you didn't do as well as you wanted; that won't help to turn the experience into positive growth. Keep us posted!

That's great! Glad it went so well. Sounds like you've found a great trainer.

Thank you everyone. It's feeling great. I'm definitely working muscles I didn't know existed, but I think that's a good thing-that I'm finally learning to actually use those proper muscles.

I really really like this trainer. I am just really happy, and really glad I am finally learning and am working pro-actively.
