Hoof Question.

I live in Texas and have some dry weather here!
My horses have dry hooves, I put vasaline on the hoof but that's not quite helping. what good suppliments are out there for dry hooves. Any at all I could buy?:-|

Their hooves absorb and evaporate water. Chemicals will never work as well as water. Overflow their water tub where they'll have to walk in it. If it's sandy and the water disappears, put a big tray underground so the water can't go past it.

Water is the best thing for dry climate situations.

I was going to suggest letting their water trough overflow as well.

Ditto what the others said. We actually built a water pool for the horses! They stand in water just up to the top of their hooves. We did this to battle thrush (vinegar in the water) and to soften their hooves to trim them. Let them stand in water for 20 minutes or so several days a week. They love it.

Adding black oil sunflower seeds to the diet helps too. Just keeping them moist every few hours or so is helpful.

That works to kill thrush? I have no experience with it but my horse developed it from the old barn :/

Vinegar kills the thrush. We have a good sized bath at the barn. The Barn Manager converted a kennel run! She had a concrete barrier poured at the front and back with a pvc pipe put in as a drain!! We filled it up and put a gallon of vinegar in it. You can do the same with single tubs but it is harder to get them to stand still! The old kennel run is covered and we have a bench to sit on while we yakk and soak horses. It has helped get the thrush under control for Biscuit. It is not totally gone but we are working on it!
