Learning how to fly ;)
*Please, no critique or criticism. This is supposed to be a fun, friendly thread of my journey learning how to jump with my horse, and I know what I'm doing wrong- I do have a trainer & I am talking lessons. Thanks!*
Alright, this me and my horse, Rainy. She is 6, a 3/4 QH and 1/4 TB. We have just started jumping and have jumped up to 2'3. I definitely am not ready to jump only this height, I know my legs look terrible! Anyways, here's our first 'real' jumping lesson:
This is from our last hunter hack class, where we placed 3rd out of 5 in the 2 years and under experience class:
And this is us jumping 2'3, again highest we've gone. Now that I've reached that, I'm officially going back to little crosses & some gymnastics so I can solidify my position before working on height again.
Anyway, I have more pictures but that's all I'm going to put up for tonight.
I have to say I'm pretty proud of my horse- I really like the way she jumps, I just have to get better to spotlight her. (:
Thanks for taking a look!
Wow, my apologies for the enormity of the pictures.
Great pics! Your horse is adorable!! Looks like a cute jumper too :)
Good luck! And your horse is definitely a cutie!
I certainly think so! (:
What a nice looking mare! She actually looks a lot like a mare I used to own. Nice pics : )
Looking good there, she is a nice mare:wink:
ETA, what is a hunter hack class?? In the UK there where Hunter classes, and Hack Classes, but they were totally separate?
great pictures!!!! cute mare :D with some preactise you'll be a team to recon with for sure :D
Hunter hacks are scored on their manners, gait, and conformation, as well as their ability to jump with an even arc and stride over the center of the fences. Points are taken off for excessive speed or slowness, breaking gait or failing to take a gait when called for, carrying the head too high or low, taking the wrong lead at the canter, the rider being on the wrong diagonal at the trot, the horse nosing out or flexing behind the vertical, and stumbling.
i was curious too so,Wikipedia ;D
Yeah, that pretty much sums up hunter hack. At our shows, you make a canter circle, take the two jumps (usually a crosspole, then a vertical about 4? Strides apart. Afterwards you handgallop to a point (marked with a cone) where you halt. After all the competitors have jumped, there's a 'flat' class where we quickly walk, trot and canter. It's the only jumping class there is at these particular show grounds, so it leaves a bit to be desired (wish we could jave courses) but its better than nothing. (:
