Pony won't flex to the left?!?!
I'm training a Australian Pony atm, She's absloutly beautiful, and has such a natural lengthened stride, collection and a 'look at me' presence.
anyway, she doesn't really flex to the left very well, to the right it's beautiful, but to the left she kind of kinks her neck, shes not sore, i just can't find the right place, at the end of every ride she gets better, but when i hop on again, it's back crooked!
and her hind quarters swing to the outside...
I don't really know why i posted this question, cause I doubt anyone will get a answer that... I don't even know what I'm saying anymore.
But anyway, if you've had this problem or know how to fix it, please, answer!
Oh boy have I had this problem haha!
When she's working, where does her tail hang? Does it hang centrally or left/right? Every horse has a good side and bad side, and it will take time to get the left as good as the right. I would suggest lots of lateral work, shoulder in, leg yield and circles. Also, work slightly longer on the left, when she works well, praise and change to her good side. Also allow lots of breaks with a long low neck so she gets to flex any muscles that may be sore.
May be worth investing in an equine massage or two to iron out any knicks and knots in her neck.
Another good idea is lunging with side reins on, lunge her to the left side with the left reind slightly shorter so she has that inside flex and use the lunge line as the contact, give and take so she moves in to it.
It could just be a bit of stiffness and lack of muscle.
wow, thanks heaps!! (: ill be sure to try it!
No problems, hope it helps! Just make sure to take it slow and steady as you don't want to over work any muscles and make them tired and sore... she won't thank you for it!
