What have you roped?
What kind of critters have you roped other than horses and cows? I roped a crippled coyote, a chicken hawk that could barely fly, lots of neighbor's dogs, a lama, and cats. I'd like to hear what you guys have roped and what was the result?
I roped my cousin... caught him right at the knees, i thought it was very impressive....he didn't. haha but thats all I've ever roped.lol. I am interested in how you roped the chicken hawk though? thats insane! was it hard? why did you rope it?
At the time I had a Redbone hound that bayed the hawk. I was riding a colt about 200 yards away (in the roundpen). I had a rope out and was getting the colt gentle to it. When I saw what the hound had, I rode down there and saw that the hawk could fly, but only 25 or 30 feet high. So I tied the colt up to a tree and roped the hawk while my dog distracted it. It took a couple tries because the hawk would flip his wings up at me and the loop came off, but soon I got him roped around the head and under one wing.
The tricky part was getting that colt to pull that hawk up the hill to the house. Every time the hawk would fly up, the colt would bolt. Anyway, we got to the house and my neighbor brought up some welding gloves to get the rope off. Conservation Dept. said if it can't fly in the morning, shoot it cause it's going to die anyway.
My sister & deer mounts in my dad's garage. The deal with my sister didn't turn out so great, I drug her about 20 feet down the gravel driveway. (I was 12ish) I assure you that my butt was just as sore as hers after pulling that one lol!
Ha "road rash" That reminds me of when my brother heeled my mom. Turned out to not be a good idea. And the deer mount reminded me of when I roped a fallow(?) deer and we duct taped it's legs together and hauled it to a petting zoo up the road in the cab of a pickup. I rode a motorcycle there with my rope hanging from the handlebars.
It's a shame you don't have pictures of that! Can't imagine hauling a deer (especially a live one) on a motorcycle...
Re-read that...I must need sleep. Maybe hauling it on the bike can be your story enhancer
haha No I rode the motorcycle there and roped it, then we hauled it in the owner's truck. Then came back and I rode the bike home.
Brand new to the forums.... found this by searching for roping forums since I'm learning to rope. Seems pretty cool so far. To this point, I've been roping for about a week and I've roped an electrical power company box in the back yard, both of my labs and a homemade saw horse/roping dummy I have in the garage. Hopefully one day I'll get on a horse, rope my girlfriend, calves, steers or whatever else I can get a rope around. Looking forward to learning a lot from you all.... goal one day is to rope in several of the Utah rodeos.
Where do you live in Utah?
