Sit pony, sit! Good boy!
I know I have seen pictures on this forum of someone's horse sitting. I would love to see those pictures again, and know how you go about training a horse to do it.
You might be able to find a vid on youtube..Ive seen one where they are teaching a horse to bow easier then sitting but still it was there.
Haven't seen Sady in awhile, hopefully she'll be back to read this.
I would suggest knowing more about it before you teach it. We had a horse and I have heard of another that ended up sitting when you didn't want to. Like on a trail ride.
When i was little we had a horse that would sit when it didn't want you to ride anymore. Very annoying.
Boonesar, I could definitely see where that could be a problem.
I am not an experienced enough horseperson to teach my own to do this and he is stubborn enough (Appy-tude) that he would probably be the one to sit to get out of work!
I was asking for my friend who is very experienced and has the perfect trick training horse.
Sara, it was Sady that I was thinking of! Her horse seems amazing! Sady where are you?
Gypsy, I am going to look on YouTube when I get home tonight. Thanks for the suggestion!
I have looked all over the internet and have not been able to find any suggestions for how it is done!
My horse doesn't know how to sit...& I am never gonna teach her. LOL! It is pretty cool, though. But I'd be worried if she would like, sit not on command. Like a horse that knows how to rear on command...I'd be afraid it'd happen not on command. Confusing lol but yeah you get my point!
Poptart...you are so cute sometimes! lol
I have taught my horse several tricks (fetch, high five and shake hands) and she will do these all the time, even when I don't want her to. This isn't really a problem because its kind of cute and it doesn't cause any problems (except you cant leave any saddleblankets on the groud coz she picks them up!). Before teaching your horse to sit, REALLY think about whether its something you want him to do all the time and he could do it anytime. Knowing horses, he will do this at the worse possible times! e.g. at a show, in a lesson.... I know its really cool having horses that do tricks, but perhaps stick with somthing that won't be too annoying if he decides to do it all the time!
High 5 with their nose is a good trick to teach because it can't really be too annoying if they do it heaps. Shaking hands is also good because it means that whenever you reach for their hoof, even to pick it out, they will lift it for you!
