Rash on filly's leg.. please advise
my almost 5 month old filly had this rash appear on her cannon bone.. We noticed it the weekend of September 25th, but at that time it was just flat rough spot. I started spraying Vetricyn on it, but honestly haven't been that good about doing it every day because I though it was just some temporary rash that would disappear on it's own. Well as of today it did not, not only that it's not just a rash but it progressed into a hard "bump" that is hard to touch and it looks like it's going to crack and split any day now..
I have no idea how she came about this, poor little baby.. I keep both my horses very clean, they get daily grooming and attention, I don't let them stay out in the rain, they are out all day, then they have a nice stall to rest at night.
I have attached some pictures, does anybody have any idea what this it and how I should treat it? Any advise is appreciated.
Bump.. any recommendations please?
I have never een anything like that maybe you should have you vet out to look at it.
I think I would be inclined to trim the hair away from it (so I could get a really good look at it). I'd also see if giving it a good scrub with an antibacterial soap would remove the scabby material. (not a hard scrub - one doesn't want to hurt the horse, of course). Until you and/or your vet can get a really good look at it, you aren't going to be able to tell excactly what it is.
I agree with the other posts that a vet should look at it. It kind of looks like abscess in which case she might need antibiotics.
thanks guys - I will call my vet and will let you know what it is..
Ok - my vet is coming by on Monday afternoon to look at the bump.. I hope it's nothing nasty..
Glad the vet is comeing out please let us know what the vet says.
The OCD in me wants to pick at that scab so bad...
Sorry, nothing helpful- but had to share that I can't look at those pictures long before I start to twitch. LOL.
Hope everything is okay, watching to see what the vet says.
I don't think that scab would be easy to pick off.. it's kinda grown into the skin - something between a scabby looking thing and bump..
