Finally got my lead changes on my reiner!

I have been working out the past few days (hurray for a good start to my New Years resolution) and I've been CRAZY sore. But, today the weather was fairly nice, so I saddled up Playboy and sucked it up.


I got it on video (yay new camera!), and these are the smoothest changes I have ever done. He used to raise his butt super high in them almost like he was kicking out, but when I did them in front of the guy I am buying him from he said that was normal...none of my other horses feel that way, but none of my other horses weigh 1500 pounds (he's a tad overweight lol).

Thanks!! I sent to video to the guy I am buying him from, and he said to just add more speed and it will get easier.
Only problem is the patterns for the Foundation shows are stupid. Slow circle, fast circle, then lead change, slow circle. That's freaking hard! First your haulin tush, then switching leads while simultaneously asking to go slower..I don't think I have EVER seen an AQHA or NRHA pattern do that..

Yayy! Very nice! Lead changes are by far my favorite thing to teach. I tend to take for granted a smooth change on Selena, so having colts around keeps you fresh. Playboy is such a cute guy.

Oh and I believe NRHA pattern #11 has that transition. You're right it is really hard. Lol

I tried out my lead changes on my guy the other day and I got three changes across centre.....however he would change in the front first then lope a couple more strides before changing in the back! Just about broke my freaking vertebrae in my lower back!!! Geez!

Anyone dealt with this?????

I was having this issue a couple of times too, Muppet. I found the faster we went, the easier it was for him..
