I, on the other hand, have never seen a reining horse in a tiedown (training fork maybe but never a tiedown)...nor have I ever met any halfway decent trainer who used a tiedown for training purposes.

But of course, the world is full of folks that misuse and abuse any particular piece of tack.

I see rope and leather cavessons all the time on reiners, cutters, cow horses, pleasure horses..

I am with smrobs on this, the only horses around here that have tie-downs are speed event horses - ropers and steer wresters, and the occasional barrel horse.

I was just offering a possible reason for the reining horse to have one. However, I taught my heel horse to rein(thought about doing a couple of local reined cow horse events), so she was wearing a tie down at that time just because that's what I always put on her when roping and didn't really want to change things up at that time. Now, she only wears the tie down when roping.
