Has anyone tried the Crates Lady Reiner? Are these newer lighter saddles good for the horse? I know they are good for my back :)

Nova-my friend had one and LOVED it. Sold it to get a Bob's, and the buyer keeps telling her how much SHE loves it.

So-I (being the total tack ***** I am...... ) bought a Leddy over the weekend at an auction. It is a ladies Leddy, I only know that since I mt the lady it belonged to. REALLY nice saddle. Yeah, heavier than the KR, but I love the shorter skirt for sure. Sadly, it is 1/2" shorter than my Bob's (which I thought was a 16, it is not) so, the Leddys is for sale-too small, just slightly. I am putting the word out locally with trainers, etc and will list it in about a month when I have time. I really love the light seat like my KR......

Believe it or not, my saddle from Brazos Saddlery (Paul Taylor Saddle Company) is more comfy and sits better than any other saddle I've ridden in.. and I've ridden in bob's, continental, circle y, pards, etc etc etc

A lot of it comes down to the rider, the horse and their preferences.

I've got a Bobs Custom Duane Latimar and LOVE IT!! Best money I have ever spent, lol!! My hubby about died when I brought it home. But I am now looking at getting a new saddle from Continental Saddles. They have some really nice saddles and they are very affordable, new will run you between $2500-$4000, the more silver and tooling the more expensive. Purchasing a used Bobs is always a good route to go as well. is a great site for quality used Bobs saddles. Billy Cook originals are awesome too! They have a great tree and seem to fit most horses and again, super affordable. I've also seen some good deals on Here's a pic of my Bobs:

I haven't tried one, so couldn't say. But the lighter weight is a plus. Honestly, those heavy saddles are a little taxing. Yeah, you figure out how to manage... but it's a pain in the rear, and forget grace and finesse. When a saddle weighs 40% of what I do, it's going to be a strain. There are some days that I look at my boulder of a western saddle... grow faint of heart and think, change of plans, today is an endurance saddle day!

Let us know if you try the Continental saddle and what you think. I hear they have a trial ride program.
