I wash and condition the tails and manes very well. Let the conditioner sit for a bit then rinse it out.

Let the hair dry very well. Then I use a braid in tub tail wrap. I also use MTG through out the winter. Then I put the braided tail wrap into a tail bag to keep it dry and out of the mud.

If you start out with a clean tail the braid in tail wrap will keep the tail clean. Just take it out about once a week or so in the winter and re do it.

As for the mane. Wash and condition let dry and then I put the mane in working braids and re do them as needed. I do not like hoods or sleazes as I find they rub the mane and brake the hairs. I have tried all types. Have quite a few in my tack room. Only use them if they are needed for transport or to keep the horse clean before a show.

I can't edit my post. Lol. I must be a little off today, because this is what I said "do you prefer a hood to the tail socks? Any particular reason if you do?"

What I meant to say was mane socks. Not tail socks. Lol. Do you prefer a hood to mane socks/mane bags.

Silly Heartland. :)
