Hi you all! At 43, I have only ridden for three years and did not get my first hard fall until two weeks ago. Actually, this was my second fall. I ride English and have been training my mare (and myself) in very, very, very elementary dressage, with the help of a trainer. Two weeks ago, on a Sunday, we went out for a trail ride. Yapa, my mare, is a great trail ride mare, but this time was a reminder that some things are inevitable with animals. We were cantering when she spooked at God knows what 'horse-eating ghost', made an abrupt side step and then suddenly stopped throwing me forcibly out onto the ground, causing me to land on my shoulder. Result: humerus head broke in three pieces plus sternal fracture = two months without running (my other favourite sport) or riding (minimum). I am very active and feel really down at this lack of activity. I am also worried at how I'll feel confidence-wise when I ride again... I go and 'visit' Yapa everyday and spend time with the other horses too. It worries me that nobody is riding her and that she may also lose training... Anyway, just needed to share and rant a bit.
