    I thought ALL bronc riding was bareback. A saddle would just get in the way and be dangerous for the rider.

    Yes, there are women bronc riders, although the men riders far outnumber them.

    Thirty + years ago I would have loved to have given it a go. Chances are I'd have given the men a run for their money!

    There is bAreback and saddle bronc. Yes there are women that do it but generally in the PRCA it is men.

    I heard once that the only sport a female could compete in now professional is barrel racing..... that might just be in Canada though. However, women did compete in bronc riding and lots they were known to be better than men.

    I've done it but not that it was planned. The horse was young, all was going well when he suddenly took a notion. All I had to hold on to was his long thick mane while he literally broke in half. Fortunately for me I got the rhythm and he travelled a straight line giving up after about 6 bucks. Took me about 5 min. To get my nerves back on track. It was something he had to get out of his system and he never did it again.

    In the past, females competed regularly in bronc riding;

    Then they were outlawed from competition because they were "afraid they would get hurt.....". Probably because they were unhappy about being shown up.

    I do not know the current recognized competition status, but guess there is still no competitions for them/

    I think this is my new favorite rodeo event:

    Wild Drag Race

    An exciting, yet dangerous event composed of a team of three (Cowboys and/or Cowgirls) and a steer with a halter and lead rope. One team member leads the haltered steer to the “finish line”, one member assists, and the contestant dressed in drag readies to mount the steer. Once the steer is across the line, the drag must mount the steer and ride it back across the finish line.
