Tremonton, Utah. It's nice to see someone on here that has had similar experience using horses for REAL work. There is a huge difference between riding the same horse a few hours per week for pleasure versus riding a different horse every day all day long with the objective of getting work done.

There's nothing like the Rockies in the springtime... Nothing like the freedom in the air... And there ain't nothing better than draggin calves to the fire and there's nothing like the smell of burning hair. -Brenn Hill

Oh ok, I like Northern Utah, pretty country! Lol, I have to admit I use my horses for pleasure too. Use the ranch horses for pounding rocks and try to save mine for the fun stuff! ;) We go to the occasional ranch rodeo and I have a horse that I'm starting to show in the cow/stock horse classes.

Wow, I'm jealous of you guys. We don't have any big roundups around here because ranchers pretty much have to take land where they can get it. So, we set up portable pens for the 20 pair here, the 18 pair there, the 35 pair here, etc, etc, etc. About the biggest day I've been involved in with branding was about 195 pair. I'd give almost anything to be able to participate in a BIG to-do.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

That's the way it is for many ranches where I'm at but I have been fortunate to get invited to a few of the big ones. I also worked for a big outfit in Nebraska. When we would brand there we'd do 500 before lunch.

Nothing wrong with that! 195 calves a good day! It's all good fun:) Anyone is lucky to even watch one. Most folks just get to look at pictures in Western Horseman. I feel very fortunate to do what I do. I hope that you get a chance to go to a big one and you do it!
