Well - I thought this was pretty darn tootin' cool! I wanted to share these with you as well!
These educational videos are made by Schleese and I thought they were extremely informative! Big eye openers for me, and I truely did learn alot from them.
I hope you find them as informative as I did, and I hope that they'll beable to help you as they did me!
WOW! I didn't realize his was made into a sticky! A big thank you to the Mods for doing so, I found these video's very informational, that by posting them I had hoped to of been able to help others in the process of saddle fit.
This made my day! Thank you and I am so thrilled that the Schleese Video's have been able to help others!
Oii! My saddle was an expensive custom made dressage saddle that we bought from the BO, it fits every single thing except for the billet alignment, they are slightly, just slightly off!
Ahh, well, we were looking for an AP saddle anyways because me and my mom want to start getting him into jumping again, we'll be sure to match every check point!
I wish we had a saddle fitter out in our area but we are lucky with Toby if dosen't like the way a saddle fits her she will let you know the instent it touches her back.
Okay, so now I know the 9 reasons why Cinny's saddle doesn't fit and the 9 reasons for his stopping short, refusing to go forward, hopping up and/or rearing, short stridedness, sore withers......and cranky attitude that only rears it's ugly head if I'm actually on him.
Saddle has been donated to local youth charity/horse rescue. New saddle has been ordered with a trial period and ability to return....sigh.....
Thank you so much for posting these videos, I found them very helpful. Its so important to have a correct fitting saddle. I know from experience that a saddle that doesn't fit causes more problems than it is worth for both horse and rider.
Wow! Thank you for posting these. I watched them as my mother and brother went to the store for supplies to make dinner. I found these videos to be extremely helpful to me since I'm a newer member to the world of horses. Thanks again!
Thank you SOOOO much for these videos! I can't afford a saddle fitter so these videos will be extremely helpful in making sure my saddle fits my horse She's young and in training so I don't want to mess everything up by having an improperly fitting saddle! Again, thank you!
Loved the videos, just got another saddle cause I figured mine didn't fit my girl, she has a flat back and is ok bareback but has been cowkicking me when I try to saddle her. I'm afraid to take out new saddle to fit now though, glad I bought an old one just to ride out in the brush. Any suggestions on a good saddle for a flat-backed arab?
That was fascinating! I knew some of the steps, as my Dressage coach showed me how to fit my saddle when I was buying a new one for my Arab mare, but it certainly didn't involve all those steps! I have a feeling we may all be saddleless by the end of the day.
those videos were great, i'm going to have to see how Bella's saddle actually fits her, i just got her the wintec pro dressage and it seems like a great fit, but now i really know what to look for. Does anyone have any videos on fitting western saddles? I just started working with my appaloosa gelding, Legacy, i was using Blue's old saddle on him, but i can tell it's too narrow because it slides down his back, we don't have any saddle fitters near us(closest it horseloverz.com retail store in hazleton Pa, and that's an hour away and i don't have a horse trailer) So if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated, i used Bella's gullet measuring thing for her wintec saddle and it says he would need a wide(white) plate, but what does that width translate to in western?
great video, I learned just enough to know that I know NOTHING!!
I will have to get my saddle out and check it against what I learned form the video. But now I have a dumb question??? what is a saddle fitter and what can/do they do? If you have a saddle that you really like but is the tree is too narrow, can they fix that?

In the UK
A saddle fitter is a proffessional who has qualifications from the society of master saddlers that says they have attended training and are qualified to fit a saddle properly.
A master saddler can fit a saddle, but can also alter/reflock/build a custom saddle, they have done extensive training on all aspects of saddlery, fitting and leather work.
Some trees can be widened slightly using a machine but that is very very rare and generaly doesnt do wonders for the saddle. generaly it means you could go from a medium wide to a wide but not from a narrow to a wide.
I personaly have a Master saddler up to see my horses and saddles twice a year as routine and then additionaly as and when needed during the show season. It only costs £20 a time.
My master saddler has well over 30 years of experiance and has been a registered master saddler for all off those years.
He custom made stans beautiful saddle and it fit stan like a glove for 8 years and only needed minor alterations as he lost or gained weight and muscle.
Great to see people taking a real interest in learning how to fit a saddle... I know when I wear a t shirt that doesn't quite fit it drives me crazy, I can only imagine what an ill fitting saddle would be like
Thank you so much for this! It is exactly what I need as I can't afford a saddler...=)
