Dutch Warmbloods

Curious to see how many people in here have or breed KWPN horses (or are just a general fan of them too!)?

What's your favourite line? And why?

I simply adore the Ferro line, they're phenomenal athletes once you figure out how they work. I know they have a reputation for being difficult, but think that's what's part of makes them such great competitors. They tend to definitely be more of a one person horse I've found.

Also enjoy the less difficult Flemmingh line. Had a Flemmingh X Ferro filly this year that I cannot wait to see how she turns out when she's older!

A dressage lesson horse I used to ride was a Dutch Warmblood...I don't know her lines, but I loved her! She was a great horse...definitely a fan! :)

I ride a Dutch Warmblood she is the first and only Warmblood I ever rode...and yes, the toughest horse I ever rode...she's very lazy. She was a broodmare for 12 years, and now she is getting back into work at 14

I love her she's such a sweetheart and has the nicest ground manners and doesn't spook, which I like. She is very athletic when she puts forth the effort.

She is from Celano bloodlines.

I'm definitely a Dutch Warmblood fan.

We for some reason have a Dutch horse, sired by Samber. He is a sweety :)

Really not a fan of most Dutch horses, I find them too hot and difficult to deal with in comparison with Hanoverian lines. I steer clear of most Dutch lines (Jazz, Krack C), although I don't mind Flemmingh, Samber and other easier lines.
The way I see it is why would I ride something that is so difficult, half my movement are very high scores and half are very low, when I could get the same or higher scores with a less flamboyant horse, and a far nicer test.
There were just as many, if not more Hanoverian horses in dressage at the WEG as Dutch.

Is that the typical disposition of a Dutch Warmblood...difficult to ride and kind of stubborn? The one I ride is both stubborn and very difficult to ride..I just thought it was her personality though.

This is what I've been told of both Dutch and Swedish....I am sure there are exceptions........I ride a Dutch-Swedish/quarter horse......and difficult doesn't even begin to describe this horse.......but I have perservered she is now coming 8 and I am able to ride her and have been for several years but have always needed help with her attitude......at 9 months she was way more than I could handle and got immediate help......I was also told that I should put her in the can.......but she has actually turned out to be not bad little horse.

Well, Lottie is pretty stubborn, and can be difficult to ride. I just attribute it to the fact she's a mare and that I'm not really as advanced as she needs. It would be interesting to see if other dutch warmbloods are like this!

No idea about her bloodlines though, since she isn't technically mine (I just ride and look after her most days for the owner so she feels like mine)

Is anything typical? I board at a barn full of kwpners and own two of my own and I don't find any of them to be particularly difficult or stubborn. Perhaps that's because I've been exposed to them for so long that I'm immune to it. I do think they are more energetic, but it doesn't help if riders allow them to hoon around over tempo as if they were on a race track. My own geldings favorite paces would be grazing or flat gallop. He's out of jumper lines and has a fantastic will to please, but he still needs to be ridden and not just sat on like a passenger. Just like any performance horse really.
There are two geldings by samber at our barn and both are fantastic citizens, but recently my DH was test riding a horse (also by samber) and he was just dead energy wise.
I kind of have a love for Iberians and Oldenburgs though.

A good friend of mine evented a Dutch warmblood mare - she was brilliant but temperemental and some days refused to perform, almost sulky. But when she was on her game there was no beating her.

He he, my family is Dutch, kinda reminds me of Dutch people too - when they are good they're awesome but they can be temperemental and if in a bad mood - look out.

Just a quick comment, as I don't have much time. But it was mentioned about the Jazz line - that line is known for being more than a little hot and flighty. Just as the Ferro line is known for being difficult and sensitive.

As with any breed, you'll get lots of different results from different crossings. But like rumba mentioned, these are not bred to be pleasure horses - for the most part they are bred to be high quality athletes. There are definitely some lines that are more for professionals and some are more amateur friendly.

But there is reason that KWPN and Hano compete, every year for 1st and 2nd spot in both dressage and jumping.
