Is my rescue related to secretariat?

I know this is a very popular and somewhat annoying question. Everyone's always saying..."Oh my horse is related to secretrariat!!!" or "Oh my gosh I traced my horse's bloodline back to secretariat!"

I always thought it was a little annoying. But here I am looking up my rescued ottb on the jockey club....just to find out more about her. And I really know nothing about racing and I'm not a huge fan of it. But on her "Pedigree" it says she is related to Secretariat. I don't know if I'm reading it wrong or if thats actually true. Can you all look at it and see if it is really true?

Most modern TBs are related to Secretariat somewhere in their lineage, even if it's not directly to him.

Yes she's related to Secretariat. She's also related to Storm Cat, Raise A Native, Native Dancer, Northern Dancer and ALYDAR! (He placed 2nd in all 3 Triple Crown races next to Affirmed) Holy crap those are some nice lines.

How did your mare do on the track? We'd love to see pictures.

I totally know what you mean about annoying people bragging about their horse being related to Secretariat. I know alot of Tbs somehow related to him too. Doesnt seem uncommon. Their owners all have a printed out version of their pedigrees on the stall doors, &all I think is, "SHOWOFF." But if it were me, I cant say I wouldnt be doing the same(x
I honestly dont know anything about pedigrees, but it sure looks like shes related to him. Is she super tall? The ones I know are some of the biggest horses in the barn. One is 19.something hands! Id love to see some pics. You should totally celebrate. Pssh, if I were you, Id be freaking out(x Its pretty awesome news. Im surprised you had no idea until you looked her up(:

Baby you light up my world like nobody else.

Nothing wrong with being excited! Just keep in mind that MOST horses have a famous relative, and unless that famous relative was within the last 2 generations, it means very little.

In Arabs, EVERY single Arab has a very famous ancestor, and in most cases (due to willy nilly inbreeding in the 70's and 80's), they have multiple famous ancestors, or multiple lines to famous ancestors. My Arab gelding was a great grandson of Ansata Ibn Sudan and he looked like a fat QH and had about half as much talent. He was good at eating and babysitting children which was all we needed at the time!

Sunrae Playboy Arabian

As you can see, he has a very impressive old Crabbet/Egyptian pedigree. Unfortunately, that didn't stop him from looking like this:

The genetic diversity in TBs isn't very wide really. Your mare is also related to Eclipse and the Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian.. which means, she's related to like every thoroughbred in the world.

I think that's something to be very excited about! Nothing wrong with that! A friend of mine has a mare who is a cousin to Secretariat - her registered name is, "Radiant Marquee", and her grandsire was "Bold Ruler"! - She just moved back to MI a few yrs. ago, and had her horse trailored up from VA.... (Secretariat's birth-state)....I've taken care of MQ several times while she had to be out of town, and she even looks like him! As we know, Secretariat sired over 600 offspring, so it's not too surprising, but nonetheless exciting :)
