I have this saddle that I desperately need gone. It's a Bighorn, model #101. QH bars, 15 inch seat.
It's in pretty great condition, just one small scuff on the seat (covered by a rider).
One of the fenders was apparently scratched up by a cat before I bought it but I covered both fenders with yellow cloth and the saddle now pretty much looks like it came with awesome yellow fenders. The structural integrity of the fender is totally sound, it was just cosmetic damage.
If you don't like the yellow, it would be very very easy to change the color. I could even do it for you (small additional fee for cloth), and change it to whatever color you wanted, before I sent it out.
The tree (QH bars) is sound and the fleece on the underside looks brand new.
This saddle is light, only about 15lbs.
This is a super comfy saddle. I've been trail riding in it for a couple of months and I love it. It just doesn't fit Lacey like I want and with Lacey's eye issues, I have some large vet bills to pay off.
I'll try to get better pictures sometime tomorrow/this weekend. I'll also try to get a gullet measurement for those who might be interested.
I'm thinking $275, shipping included (shipping will be about $30), is reasonable? OBO
No worries, I was convinced that it was FQHB too until I was finally (after A LOT of looking, they really buried it! haha) able to find it on the Bighorn website. Not your fault!
Not hard at all. I removed them both to cover the fenders with cloth and it took maybe 5 minutes to get them out and then another probably 5 minutes to get them back in. It was very easy.
As far as replacement fenders go, these look like they'll match style-wise:
I still have this saddle and it still wants a new home...it told me today that the mice in my tack room are calling it names an making it sad. It just wants to be loved, poor baby!
Also, for interested parties, if desired, I could definitely cover the fenders in black cloth for you. It would end up looking like your everyday black Bighorn!
I just wanted to also say that I have ridden in this brand and style of saddle with my horse and it was very comfy!...it would make a great trail saddle..especially for those who are starting out and it's lightweight so you don't have to feel bad about putting loads of weight on your horses back..especially if it has a sensitive back like my horse.
Wallaby,if I was just doing trails I would buy this saddle and I actually like the fenders :P.....maybe you can put different cloth on if someone wants purple or teal?
Oh yes, I could cover them in whatever color(s) someone wanted! It could be super super cool.
And thanks for the vote of quality! I appreciate it!
Forgot to mention in my other most recent post, I've dropped the price down to $250 but I'm still open to reasonable offers.
I might also be open to the idea of some kind of payment plan if needed...
I can't say for sure, but I do have the same saddle I use on my fat and happy arab who has a lazy dip / high withers. He's been losing weight too and it still fits. I LOVE this saddle!
According to some info I found online, the gullet is 7 inches on this model. I intended to measure this saddle today but it totally slipped my mind. I can get it tomorrow if you'd like though!
It fits Lacey well (fat wide horse), the angle of the bars (too flat) is the only thing wrong with it. I'd figure that if he horse you're trying to fit is a stock breed or built similarly to one, this saddle should fit him/her pretty well.
He's an over weight, under worked Appy. He's my moms horse and in the 2 years she's owned him she has been on him once. Last time I rode him he bucked and I think it's due to saddle fit so I haven't ridden him since . He's devoloped a bit of a sway back from lack of work lol. I keep telling my mom every time I see him that he needs a diet and exercise plan but she wants my help and I just don't have time right now. If i get a saddle that fits him better maybe I'll get to make time, it's hard with no saddle, I don't do bareback well lol.
Measurement would be great, the saddle I had been using on him(borrowing it from a friend) has a 7" gullet and it fits him well in the gullet, just not his back.
Here's a pic of the fat spotted monster, or lazy sack of spots lol
Those Saddle King fenders may not be of the same quality as the Big Horn. Big Horn uses good stout webbing for their stirrup "leathers". I've seen webbing on fenders similar to seat belt material that stretches.
I've been meaning to get better pictures of that saddle anyway so I'll try to get some better ones (gullet measurement, underside, etc) tomorrow.
If I had to guess, I'd bet that this saddle will fit him pretty well. Lacey has a pretty curvy back:
and it followed her back really well (no dry spots along her back at all when she'd get sweaty, except at the withers where the angle is wrong for her - your guy looks like his shoulders will be the correct angle, if I had to guess).
He's a cutie!
Rachel1786, I would say it would probably fit your horse as well since he has some curve to his back. It used to be my saddle but had a bit too much rock for my flat backed TWH mare. It would probably work nicely for your boy
I measured the gullet (have a picture of that) and the outside, where people typically measure to get the gullet measurement), was about 7 inches. The "true" gullet measurement, from inside the gullet -concho to concho- was about 6, 6.5 inches (I was using a soft measuring tape which made things a little harder, haha).
The best I could do taking a picture of the measurement by myself... :/
Thanks, I hope you find a seller! On the plus side for me, Legacy's previous owner still has his saddle and when they come up to see him they will bring the saddle to see if it still fits. He's been out of work a while so it may not, but I have my fingers crossed!
