I've been on a lengthy search for a saddle to fit my chunky TWH and it's leaning toward a Haffie saddle. He's low withered with a broad flat short back. Sound like a Haffie. Since I am in Canada and most Haffie saddles for sale are in the US, it's too expensive to mail it both ways if it doesn't fit. It's about a hundred bucks each way. Then if there's a restocking fee....
I have a fjord with same build and short flat back and the haffie saddle didn't fit right it actually bridged across her back front to back and the only saddle that fit perfectly (western type for trail saddle) is an australian stock saddle because it's short from front to back and has short, rounded skirt and has adjustable tree. Look at link for australian stock saddle company in malibu california. You can get with a horn and with or without knee pads so you can basically get it like a western saddle. Aussie Leather Saddles
You can see why this shape saddle fits so much better than regular western saddles.
All of the western saddles I tried (I tried 13) all either bridged across her back or pressed on her shoulder blades or both.
