Speed Racer: Sorry, but you must not have done much research when you bought your saddle. Whether or not it is made of leather is irrelevant with regards to the price. You can get a brand-spanking new leather saddle package for $200:
Silver Fox Dressage Saddle - Statelinetack.com
See? It's a piece of crap though.
The Wintec Pro brand new is $830 for the saddle only - no leathers, no irons, no girth:
Wintec Pro Dressage Contourbloc Sdl CAIR - Statelinetack.com Add on the necessary accessories and you are looking at around $1000 for a complete package, new. $500 for a used package in great condition starts to look like a really good deal for the quality you are buying.
This saddle is *not* a piece of crap. It is a well-made, well-designed saddle that will last a very long time.
Oh look at this, the next model up is the Isabel, and is priced at $1304:
Wintec Isabell Dressage Saddle FLOCK - Statelinetack.com
$1304 for a synthetic saddle. Hundreds of thousands of people have purchased Wintec saddles because they are well made, high quality saddles of excellent value for the price. The owner of our local fancy-schmancy dressage shop swears by her Wintec Pro.
Synthetic saddles are appealing for a number of reasons: easy to clean, easy to care for, and nobody died for their hide so it is perfect for vegetarians and vegans alike. I must say that the ease of caring for this saddle has spoiled me and I am not planning on ever buying a leather saddle again. Why would I want to sit on slippery leather that is a total pain in the rear to clean and condition, when I can ride in a synthetic saddle that is made of grippy suede and just takes a moment to wipe the dust off?
I am pretty sure that these saddles aren't selling because saddles in general aren't selling quickly due to the economy. Besides, I'm primarily trying to sell to someone local as I don't want to deal with shipping. I made that pretty clear in the ad. Anyway, thanks for reminding me that I posted it up here as I've dropped the price by $25 as of last week. Also, there were two other saddle packages of this exact size and model posted in my area on craigslist. The one listed for $500 seems to have sold as it is no longer listed, so this saddle package, which includes 2 extra gullets, leathers, and irons seems to be priced in the correct range.
