    Looking for a CC saddle.

So deal with the bates saddle I was going to buy fell through...

I'm looking to buy a CC saddle with a 17-17.5 inch seat and knee blocks, thigh blocks or at least the option of having them there is a bonus. :) I want to spend around 600$ CDN. I don't want to sound greedy, but my coach would kill me if I had Des in a cracked old saddle, so, yeah. :P Bates saddles are what I'm truly looking for but if you have a nice saddle it's not worth not looking at. :)

    Thanks ! :)

Have you checked Tack Trader, Bits & Barter, Craigslist, EquineNow, and HorseClicks? There are plenty of nice, used saddles for decent prices.

I got my Stubben from Craigslist.

Sadly I have pretty much stalked every website to the core, nothing I want is in my price range, and if it is, shipping to canada runs almost 200$ sometimes. :(

Don't ya'll have Kijiji? Isn't that similar to Craigslist here?

What about tack shops in your area? Most of them have used saddles on consignment that cost far less than a new one.

I haven't really checked my local tack shop's consignment saddles, but kijiji is empty as well.

Hmmm, interesting. A used Bates just shouldn't be that hard to find.

Have you looked at other makes? I got my Stubben for less than what you're willing to pay. I'd think with $600 CDN to spend, you'd be able to find plenty of decent, used saddles.

I have found a lot of nice stubbens and crosbys, but with the fact that I'm buying this saddle for my lease mare, I'd like it to fit other horses afterwards as well. :/

So you're looking for the adjustable gullet? Plenty of other makes have that. Wintec makes some beautiful saddles. I have the 2000 AP.

Besides, even if you don't get an adjustable gullet, you can always sell the saddle once you stop leasing the mare. My rule of thumb is one saddle per horse. I bought the Stubben for my TB and the Wintec for my Arabian, and I don't interchange them.

What can you tell me about the quality of the wintec saddles? I asked my coach and all she said was 'you get what you pay for' so I'm not really sure...
