Started hunting for a 16 inch fqhb western saddle

I am looking for a western saddle that is 16 inches and fqhb. I want all leather and a good quality saddle. I am just riding around and trail riding so doesn't have to be fancy, just comfortable for myself and mostly the horse. Let me know if you have anything or know of anything.Thanks!!

I like these folks. They can custom build you a saddle that you want for an exceptionally reasonable price. I have one of theirs that I am extremely pleased with. All their saddles are FQHB, do you know what size gullet you need? I think all of theirs are 7" (pretty standard for most normal stock horses).

I think that base price varies according to the style that you get, but mine (a ranch saddle) was under $700.

Wow, I was thinking a lot more. I will look into that. Can you give me any suggestions for what I would be looking for on the website? I am wanting it to be comfortable for the horse and myself.

That really depends on what you are aiming to do. My favorite is the Modified Association saddles as they are the most comfortable and secure for me, but not everyone would like how they feel. Is there any particular type of saddle that you have sat in and really liked?

As for the horse being comfortable, nobody can guarantee that it will fit your horse properly, but I've been using mine on quite a few different horses and none of them have shown any inkling of soreness or discomfort.

My horses seem to be pretty easy to fit. I have a really cheap syntetic king series I got from the feed store that I have been using when I ride western and fits all of them pretty well. My dressage saddle is on ebay and should sell within the next couple days so I will need something before too long. I have not sat in any western saddles really besides my cheapy. No problem , you might consider going to a local tack store (if you have one). They generally don't mind if people want to sit in the saddles just to get a feel for which one might be most comfortable.

A little off topic but I thought I would give you an idea of the quality of their saddles. This is mine that I got about a year ago and have been riding for several hours almost daily since then.

Yours looks very comfortable. I seriously don't think there is a tack store around here with western saddles. I will look into it. I may have to just buy one blindly.

Wherever you get your saddle, make sure that you are clear on their return policy just in case it doesn't fit or you don't like it.
