Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster (hence the new acct). I have a lovely Andalusian x TB mare with a beautiful mane and tail. I had her turned out for a few weeks and during that time she rubbed out the center of her mane. I’ve been growing it out, as I got her with a pretty short hunters...

Kind of a weird question, but I have a barrel horse that has the weirdest textured mane I have ever seen! It is coarse and wiry but feels greasy 100% of the time no matter what I use on it or if I use very little product at all. It rubs off in huge clumps very often and I have thought about...

I roached/hogged my pony’s really thick mane recently and now i’ve noticed a lot of flaking on his scalp area. I’m thinking about rubbing it down with coconut oil but wanted some other opinions on it. It also happened with my goats but that’s not for this forum.

Hey guys winters fast approaching and I was just wondering what everyone does to maintain a healthy and long mane. My mare has a long mane and whenever I bring her in throughout winter it's always very knotted and very messy! I have been advised to try products such as snuggy hoods which cover...

As you can see in the photo BJ has quite a thin mane. Before he was mine, his mane was pulled. The previous owners brushed a bit of it out. I used this horse conditioner which was then kept in overnight. I then brushed out his mane, which caused a lot to be pulled out. It was quite thick...

I have heard both of them, but what's the difference, if there even is a difference? Thanks!
  7. Horse Shows
Hi, I just have a "quic" question! I was wondering what you spray your horses hair with to plait or braid it. I am new to showing so I have used the mane n tail detangler but I have never used any actual hair spray. In all the videos I have watched they say to use quic spray, it just seems soooo...

I have a mare that has an extremely thick mane, and every time I try to pull it, she throws her head. She didn't always do this; she just picked up this behavior last summer. Any tips?
  9. Dressage
I'm curious about the guidelines for the aesthetic gear of the horses. I see that the horse's mane is usually braided in a dressage test. Is this required or optional? Are other styles acceptable. If so, what are they. What about the tail? I see that sometimes the horse's tail is set so...

I have a spotted draft mare that I plan on taking to our first "big" show in a couple weeks. I would like to show her english and western since in my opinion, and my trainers, she is a great all around mare. Question is how do I need to do her mane for these classes? Her mane is thick and down...

My horses mane is scraggly and uneven. It also feels very rough and is impossible to brush. Her tail isn't great either, but it's not as bad as her mane. I have tried using cowboy magic but it just seems to be a temporary fix. Any products that can make it feel and look better? Thanks!

My horse's mane has done something so odd this year that it has never done before. His mane goes about 3/4 in length down his neck, so not real long. I don't brush it, do try and condition it with 'Healthy Haircare Horse Hair and Skin Moisturizer'. He itches it somewhat but not real bad just...

Hello! I would like to know how do you plait your horses mane for dressage/show jumping competitions? (button braids) Do you use elastics or needle & thread? Why do you prefer one to another? I am not experienced in plaiting and I would like to start practicing. But I'm not sure which way...

I was out at the barn today re-braiding my horses mane, when I began to wonder what other people do to care for their horses mane and tails in the winter months! I keep my mares mane and tail braided throughout the winter and every couple of weeks (maybe a bit more often for her mane) I will...
  16. Horse Shows
I figure this may be a common question, but I can't find it specifically asked. I am going to an open 4H show and I'm showing in western halter for the first time. My mare's mane isn't pulled. It'll be our first show together so I was going to braid her mane for our hunter classes. I was...

So my  mare  had a crazy mane until I had it pulled and cut. It stayed on one side for a while but now part of it is starting to stick straight up and flop onto the other side. I brush it almost every day which helps a lot to keep it on one side but every time i stable braid it...

My POA has problems growing a mane. It's like 2 inches long until like 1/5 of the way up his neck, then it's normal length (I'd say a good 8") but with some short hairs that still stick up. With upcoming shows, I want him to look good and put together. I'm aware that the common western horse...

Hi there, i have a new horse (had him for 4 months now) and in the last couple of months he has started itching his mane. initially he rubbed out the length of his mane but now he is targeting one area causing it to bleed and become saw. He is a grey horse with sensitive skin and in the past...

I apologize for this topic because I know there are already a few like it, but I'm looking for opinions. I am wanting to roach Nav's mane. He has a thick mane but it's usually pretty uneven and scraggly. I prefer the look of a roached mane and don't mind the silly mohawk look when it grows...
