I am in the market to buy a new cell phone, I would really like some input from forum members as to the types of phones they have and what the pros & cons are.
Specifically I am looking for bluetooth, micro SD capabilities( for my gazillion ringtones)
Any help would be appreciated!
well my father works for motorola, if you see one of those you like ill ask him if its a good phone. he tells me not to get alot of the brand new ones, because all the bugs arent worked out yet.
I have at&t, so I bought the Vu. It's a touch-screen phone and I really like it....my friend has the Verizon enV3. I like that one too. My mom just got a new phone, and it's also a Verizon. It's from Samsung and it flips two ways. I like that as well
he he "cell phone" ****. sounds so funny, only ever hear that on chick flicks, we call them mobiles here. sorry no help i have a good reliable nokia that loves to end up in the muck heap and still works, drop it all the time and no problem at all with it, and seemingly it is an express music phone too but all i use it for is texting and calls, dont know what to do with anything else on it
i have a blackberry curve from verizon....my only addiction other than my horses! ive had it since valentines day and i have yet to find anything i dont like about it! as far as bluetooth goes i highly recommend the jawbone...its a little bit on the expensive side but you really do get what you pay for when it comes to that! jawbone cuts out all of the back ground noise!

I've good ol' Nokia 3660. I think it was one of the first cellphones with camera. I've dropped it on asphalt & snow (in the latter case it spent some hours in the snow) and it still works as a dream.
Also my previous cell was Nokia and it worked well too.
I bought my current cell back in 2004 so I'm not sure how cells have developed after that. Still, I think that if it includes more electronics it'll break down easier.
I have an LG Chocolate (one of the older ones) from verizon and I totally love it. It's not my favorite for making calls on but texting and pictures are awesome. It's a pretty sweet phone. I've had it for 2 years and it's still working great. I had to replace the battery in September but that's to be expected after two years.
If you have the money, consider getting a BlackBerry Curve or BlackBerry Bold.
Texting with a full QWERTY keyboard is lightning fast and makes all the difference in the world compared to the T9 texting on "normal" phones. The BlackBerry can also double as a full featured MP3 player, GPS navigation device and of course web browsing including watching YouTube videos for when you need some time to kill! BlueTooth is also included along with MicroSD capability.
The only con is the price. I broke my BlackBerry last week and it was 4 or 5 days out of warranty and it cost me $508 to replace! Had it still been under warranty it would have been a $50 handset swap. =(
I personally think the fancier the phone, the crapier it will be. A lot of my friends spend all this money on these fancy phones that do all this stuff that they really don't need to do. They've all had to replace their phones because they break way too easily or have issues. I just go with one of the free upgrade phones I get every 2 years with Verizon.
I would have to agree to an extent. This is my 5th BlackBerry in under 13 months, all of which were covered by the warranty except my last one. It's kind of a bummer since I take great care of my phones and never drop them and/or get them wet... yet they keep mysteriously dying.
All of my other non BlackBerry phones have never broke, I've dropped some of them pretty hard, even submerged one in a lake and after letting it dry out for a few days it was as good as new. I'm just glad I don't have an iPhone, the screen would be ruined after the first week... plus I like the feeling of keys for when I'm texting and not looking.
Unfortunately for the line of work I do, a BlackBerry is standard and I'm stuck with it...
i have to agree with jinx as far as tha blackberry goes! not only does it have all of the features he mentioned but it also has the pin# which allows free messeges if u dont have unlimited texting and lets not forget about the blackberry messenger!
thanks everyone! I was kind of leaning toward a blackberry curve 8900 but with no personal experience with one i wasn't for sure.
I've always had either motorolas or nokias both of which are good phones my biggest problem now is although there is nothing wrong with my razr I can't see the display.
It's been a sturdy phone even though it's a 1st generation and the reviews weren't that great for it I've not had any problems with it, my vision is just getting worse..old age lol
The only thing I don't like is no memory slot and can only have a limited # of ringtones
I have a Sanyo pro700 its a military issue bare bones no camera phone. Its rough and tough and takes a beating. It has the best antenna for better reception and that is what I was looking for. It has GPS plus an excellent speaker and microphone. It has one of the best battery life as welll It does get the Internet but I don't use it or text messaging. I wanted a phone to get and make calls.
We are in the boonies so reception was my main goal. It hasn't let me down yet.
To bubblegum- I rarely hear them called "mobiles" anymore. Most people call them either "blackberry" if that's what it is or just "cell"
the phrase posted by the poster that said "the fancier the phone, the crapier it will be" is totally not true. I have the LG Dare from Verizon. It's a full touch screen with QUERTY keyboard and the upright format. As well as Bluetooth and an actual built in 3.2 megapixel camera with a flash feature. The internet is great on it and I would recommend it to anyone.
I had the LG Chocolate (the second version) and it was great, except for the fact that the lights on the outside went out within the first year :/
BUT I totally recommend anything from Verizon. It truly does have service everywhere. I have yet (in my 4 years of having the service) to get the "no signal" sign
I take back everything I said earlier! My new BlackBerry randomly died yet again, so I've decided to take the plunge and get an iPhone. I already have it ordered, just waiting for it to arrive... then plan on selling my replacement BlackBerry. I'm not sure why my BlackBerry's keep dying, but after 6 replacements now... enough is enough! =(
Well later today I'm getting a G1 from T Mobile, and personally, I think it is the best and most reliable phone I have ever used(my fiance has one). It's got a micro sd card slot, you can access the FULL internet, youtube, texting, im, email notifications via gmail, it has a touch screen and full keyboard, you can run/buy apps, 3.2 mp camera and it has 3g and works in edge and 2g networks as well. The T-Mobile G1 with Google phone | Official Site However, for the phone itself it costs around 400$, but if you go through t-mobile and get a two year plan w/ activation it should be around 150$.
I would recommend this phone to anyone.
Ah but you can get a used or brand new iPhone for the same if not less and you can do even more with them. I am very bias to Apple products tho
The look of the iPhone is great! looks awesome. You can get it in different colors and it works sooo smoothly. It's a very easy machine to use, I even took it with me when I went to France! I had absolutely incredible service there. Didn't cut out once! not only that but I had service there in some places where local cell phones didn't(but I think technology here is a lot more advanced than what they have there).
The other huge bonus as well, is how easy it is to link absolutely everything between your computer and your iPhone. You can make your own ringtones directly from songs and not those crap duotones or bought ringtones.
Applications are also insaly cheap and ever so easy to get and install.
I could go on and on about the iPhone. Its an incredible machine.
For the G1, most of the apps that you would want are free. And it is practically bombproof, you can drop it, and it still works, doesn't get scratched, nothing. And if you need wifi for your laptop and there is no wifi around, you can use your phone for it. And with the G1 you can custom order it with a design or color that isn't necessarily sold in stores.
I'm biased towards the Android and HTC systems...as my fiance created the system that is being used for Verizon's new HTC Hero.
Anyway, I don't hate the iphone, I just think that it wouldn't be suitable for me, and those who I have known to have one have ended up hating it. But whatever works for the owner.
