What about when you hit backspace, then refresh the Google page? It just comes to mind that the reason the Google page doesn't change could be because, if you've hit backsapce, it's a cached version?

I don't know if Firefox caches like that though.

Jehanzeb, didn't work. It makes no difference.

Claire, tried it and it didn't work either.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Ok last resort is to reinstall firefox, or perhaps go into Options and restore it to default.

I can't understand what else could it be that is causing this issue. did you say, you have tried other search engine websites and they are doing the same thing?

Yup, all sites do (or rather, don't do) the same thing.

I would try uninstalling it, delete the Firefox (Mozilla) folder from program files and then install it again.

That is the only thing left in my head to suggest

(I like challenges and I am happy that you have brought one here! )

Thanks all. It's just not worth the effort. I'll either switch over to IE or try Google's Chrome. What a shame.

Thanks Jehanzeb. I rarely give up but there are more important things to do - like find a new computer. I'm looking at a 17" HP laptop.

oh no, you buying a laptop just because the firefox didn't work? or you already was thinking about buying one?

HP is good but if it is 17incher I would go for a Sony just a personal preference
