Has anyone used the Google Droid phone?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering whether anyone has or has used the new Google Droid phone? My mobile phone is so old that it can't even receive picture messages. I have been eligible to receive a discount on a new phone by renewing my contract for an additional two years for a while now, but I've held off from getting anything because I've been waiting for the iPhone to come to Verizon. I've been reading some pretty good things about the Droid but would like to hear any accounts of first hand experience. My primary interest is in using it to browse the web, particularly a certain horse related site I enjoy.

I used to switch phones every time a new one came out. About 3 years ago I switched to ATT because I wanted a phone with a sim card. When the iphone came out I got one and I'm now on my second one - I passed the first one to Jody.

My point is - switch to ATT and get an iphone. There are more features and apps than you can ever use. I love mine as do both my sons - we a a 4 iphone family.

I ended up getting a Droid and being able to play games on it makes my commutes heavenly as compared to trying to effect an out of body experience. Come to think of it, I don't talk on it nearly as much as I play games on it. Maybe I should have gotten a PSP instead.

I like it's slide out keyboard. I once used it to painstakingly type a long Horse Forum post from a dentist's waiting room. Of course, my finger hit the wrong button and I lost 45 minutes worth of effort, but it's a very cool thing to be able to do. In theory.

Is anyone else here a Droid or other Android phone user?

If I weren't an Apple geek, I would definitely buy the Droid. I do love Google, don't get me wrong. But I love Apple more.

I can imagine that Google will be bumping up apps like it's cool. Google has always been very good at developing things, plus, 99% of the things Google produces are free, and that is a HUGE plus!

And yes, iPhones sadly aren't that reliable in NYC. My husband recently visited and let's just say I didn't get to talk to him much. Although everywhere else we've lived and been has had great reception. Even at my parents house in the middle of nowhere (3G there, too. Who knew?)

I read an article yesterday in the recent Forbes magazine about Google and I must admit, if I ever switch cell phone companies and can't take my iPhone with me I will definitely switch to a phone that Google produces.
