iPhone prices??

The only way that would work would be if you were due for your two-year upgrade (I think AT&T does that still).

Buying a phone from AT&T and putting it in your existing plan. Unless you are due for your two-year upgrade, you'd have to buy the phone outright (back to the ridiculous $600 price tag) and put it on your line.

Not sure about on AT&T. You'd have to ask them. You can usually look on their website under phones and it'll tell you the price on an upgrade.

If you are looking at brand new unlocked then yes, it will be in the range you describe. You can also take the risk of getting a used one in Mint or near new condition online but that's a bit risky.

Virgin Mobile has the "Super Tab", you get the phone for $0, but with your bill every month, it takes off 10% and puts it towards paying off your phone. Don't think you can do it with the Iphone 4 yet though.

Actually they are making it illegal now to use unlocked phones. Its still legal to JAILBREAK an iphone, but not unlock it to use on other carriers

I've heard on several news outlets that AT&T are still unlocking phones in violation of that silly, silly law. The Obama administration has also indicated that they are going to re-look into things and agree that phones should be unlockable... so that law is kind of useless at the moment and rightfully so!

I have an iPhone 4 through AT&T. I got mine for $0.99 with my two-year upgrade. If I didn't have that upgrade, I would have had to buy the iPhone 4 from AT&T and add it to the plan for about $600.

My best friend has an unlocked iPhone 4 that he got secondhand. He got the phone with a tiny crack in the top corner for $250, and he can text/call etc. and he has no contract on the phone. I can ask him for details if you want, I don't know the whole thing.

That's pretty much the layout :) The unlocked phones would definitely be worth getting, if you didn't want to spend 600 bucks for one from ATT.
