Laptop battery...

My laptop's had it. A message popped up today 'plugged in, not charging, replace battery'. Oops.

I've had it for close to four years and haven't replaced anything off of it, so I guess it's about time. Does anybody know where I can find a battery replacement? It's the compaq presario CQ56 (don't know if that's a relevant name / number but it's on the laptop ) Dad says you can get them online 'somewhere' for cheap... but he doesn't know where.

I'm sure you can contact the Compaq company, or browse online, people are always selling parts

eBay is your answer! They seem to have batteries for the CQ56 starting at like $20 or so with shipping:

I'm so suspicious of buying computer parts online (but I'm suspicious of almost everything online). I honestly didn't even think about checking ebay though... duh. Thanks Jinx!

Just get the battery from someone with a good feedback rating and you will be fine. I've been on eBay since 2004 and have over 100 purchases and never once have I run into trouble. It just comes down to common sense and due diligence. (If it seems to good, don't risk it... and only buy from people with good feedback who have been around a while.)

The first seller on the link I sent you has sold over 700,000 items with a 99% feedback rating. :)

Pull out the battery and check the details on it. Then look up a local battery retailer in the phone directory or online (preferably the sort that specialise in batteries - everything from motor vehicle batteries to phone batteries or whatever) and give them a call and ask if they have your battery in stock.
