    Laptop help?

I need some laptop advice! I've had my Toshiba for ~8 years. It's old and I am shocked it's lived this long (which is part of why I want another Toshiba). I am really set on having another of this brand, but I'm open to at least looking at others as long as it fits my criteria 100%. I also, obviously, bought mine 8 years ago, so maybe toshiba isn't as good anymore, maybe another brand is better? But it'll be hard to change my mind to another brand So reviews and links on - not just brand - but specific laptops would be really awesome!

    Here is my criteria

Hard drive capacity: at least 500GB, but I'd love 1TB - I have two 1TB (so 2TB total) external harddrives but they are filling up so capacity is huge for me

USB ports: the more the better

Screen size: Needs to be at least 17", but bigger would be better. I have a 17.3" now so 17" is the smallest I will go

Needs to be able to handle a serious gamer (lol). Doesn't need to be an actual gaming laptop, but needs to be able to handle it. I play World of Warcraft, and some misc. Other games. Needs to be able to support higher quality graphics without lag. Also needs to be good for photo/video programs as I do lots of photography and video stuff (So Sony Vegas Pro, Photoshop CS5).

Price: I'd like to keep it under $1000 including taxes, just because I'll be back at school full time in the fall and have rent/truck/horses to pay for as well, lol.

    Reviews/Links would be great!

My suggestion would be a Mac, but I don't think you can get one that fits your specifications under that price. Dx So... subbing to see what other people suggest xD

I've always gone with HP, but they tend to get a little hot. As in the fan wakes me up in the night sometimes. I have a Dell Studio that I like but the keyboard sucks. Gets sticky. Have a Toshiba Satellite that I'm not impressed with... maybe it's the Windows version, but hubby hates it.

Not sure if that helps any, but I've been using the Dell the most, since it has Windows 7 still.

Dont get a mac. They are overpriced and terrible for gaming! I have a MacBook Air for school and its a very average computer IMO. I used to have a dell, it was old, but worked well enough. I found that it had problems handling Minecraft, so I don't know how it would go with higher graphic games. Other than that I've only had desktops, so can't help anymore.
I suggest trying out some of your friends/relatives laptops if you can, im sure some people wouldnt mind you having a quick play around with them. Its always best to have a good go on a laptop to see if you like it.

Although I am not the biggest fan of apple products, I love Mac's! Excellent built-in software/security and as long as you keep running your updates, your Mac isn't going to crash.

I am a photographer and graphic designer. I have 2 Macs, one of them I have had for 7 years now. You won't find one in that price range unfortunately, but you definitely get what you pay for.

I should also mention that I am not a fan of the Macbook Air either.. If you are looking for something light, android tablets would be best suited.

Macs arnt the best for gaming. For work, yes they work well, for games, not so much. I have been yet to encounter a problem with my MacBook, but my IMac, different story there. Blew the motherboard after a few months, hasn't worked well since, its more like a giant USB now, I store all my photos on it.

Yea, I have heard this that they are not the greatest for gaming. That, and I just don't like macs haha! I would get an actual gaming laptop, but the ones I have see are a little over my current budget. While I will be in school, this new laptop won`t be used for school related things (I can still use my current for that).
