    Ok I work in the IT industry at our work we only use dell because they are cheap and easy to use, we don’t support Mac’s because they are harder to install some programs and they cost way more to buy. I’m not trying you to buy anything but this is my opinion and everyone has theirs. At home I use HP windows 8. I LOVE IT! Inspiron 17 7000 Series would be good it has windows 8 it is always a plus. It has a 1 year warranty and the screen is 17.3”, all the managers at my company love this computer to death! It also has 6GB its $799. Another one that is a good laptop is the Inspiron 17 5000 Series it’s almost the same as the 7000 serious but it has less GB only 4 its $499. If you want something that is portable and it’s also a computer then the surface is yours! We have these also and it’s amazing! The surface is 10.81” x 6.79” x 0.35 the storage on it is from 32GB, 64GB. The screen is 16:9. The memory is 2GB RAM. Its only $299.00 and if you want to buy more storage you can always buy an external TB for $64

    thanks so much for this!

    I REALLY like the looks of the 7000 series. Looks like exactly what I am looking for. I've never dealt with Dell though, are they supposed to be fairly good for gaming? That's my biggest concern really - I know you could game on any laptop, but I'm a serious geek so it's a bigger concern for me

    Another general question, I'm not really one for ordering online unless I already know the product I am ordering. Is it "okay" to order a laptop online? Like they are generally described exactly as they are, I won't have any "surprises" when I open the box? Or is it really one of those things I should buy in person?

    I would recommend Dell or ASUS because IMO they make the best laptops. Dell makes outstanding and long lasting laptops. There great for gaming when you need to play on High settings but in return act as a Home laptop for internet browsing. ASUS is about being small, light, strong and super fast. Their laptops are a little bit more expencive then others but worth it. Another thing what you could do is go to Best Buy or target or Walmart and see if they have the computer that you were looking for and try it out in the store and see if you like it if you really do like it then you can order online and you will know what you get not a random cat in the box(-;

    I advise against ASUS. I bought a high end gaming ASUS laptop from Best Buy and a month after the warranty was over the stupid thing started to need repairs. It was an $1800 laptop!!!
