Good read:

Best & Worst Laptop Brands 2010

Always a little bit suspicious of these lists, but worth checking out non the less since it's from a good source. Apple was ranked #1 and Lenovo was ranked #2 for what it's worth... :]

I'm pretty sure I have not directly bought anything from Apple. Oh wait. I've bought a couple songs on iTunes (that ended quickly through the power of google. ). I got my iPod for Christmas..in 2007. It's a 3rd gen nano that lives in my car. Love the little thing and it's still kickin it. Once in a while it'll freeze because it's literally frozen inside. Quick restart and it's back to normal.

Ooh. I'll check out the article. I feel like some of those lists are rather relative to whoever is using them. I don't want some high-powered gaming computer because I wouldn't use it as that, for example.

Well, my computer went in today. They said if I sacrificed my last year on my warranty, I'd just get a new computer, which was my intention. Also, the Geek Squad guy said with the warranty, as long as they don't see tire treads, they don't care what you've done to it. So it'll take up to 3 weeks to find out what kind of credit I get back towards a new laptop. I'll just have to pay the difference if it's more expensive, then for a new warranty.

I think I know which I want. I looked at their laptop selections after dropping off my computer. A Toshiba Satellite L635. It's not on Toshiba's website, but I'll post pictures. I like it a lot. It looks like a tank and could take a beating (and hopefully survive if it decides to jump from my couch like the other one). Plus, it has their new "wipeable keyboard". I saw a commercial for it the other day. The keys are spaced out quite a bit and have long sides so you don't get crumbs and dust in the keys and can just be wiped out. It's pretty sweet.

The picture of the keyboard doesn't really look right.. The keys are higher up. That makes it look really flat.

ETA: Forgot to add, it's basically a kid's laptop, which I think it completely acceptable in college. It needs about the same level of indestructibility..if not more..

Oh that's a cool looking toshiba!

Im a mac and love it. Had minimal issues in YEARS. Had a regular macbook then upgraded to the max 15" macbook pro a year ago. Had a few minor hard drive issues that didn't affect usability just made it slow to boot and rather than crash it told me to have it checked (the computer gives you a heads up lol). So I went to the apple store and in an hour the replaced the hard drive for free with nothing at all lost, and also while they had it checked and said my warranty was running out in 2 weeks so they took the liberty of replacing a fan that was working but weak so that I didn't have to pay. That was pretty impressive since I am used to dealing with companies that purposely wait til it's just out of warranty. Good stuff! Mac = <3.

Oh but I love my blackberry - no iphone for me lol.

I've only seen an iPhone once. AT&T doesn't have service up here and Verizon just started having iPhone capability.

I also refuse to own a smartphone of any sort until I have no choice. When I got my upgrade, I specifically looked for one that I didn't HAVE to have internet for. I have an LG Octane now. It's a nice phone and I'm not on the internet all the time. I just really hate macs. I hate using them. If I had used them my entire life, I might like them, but for the most part, I get super pissed while using them.

I have to talk to the people at Best Buy about that laptop. The RAM is 2GB, as it's meant to be a kid's computer, but their website said it was expandable up to 8GB. 4GB's good for me. I also have to have NetNanny and KidZui removed if I get it. I'm mad because I really like another model Toshiba has, but it's only available at Walmart. My laptop has to be bought from Best Buy. Rawr.

Yeah I have just a Samsung solstice phone. Iphones are ridiculously overpriced. And you have to get internet, and we're just not going to pay for that.

And that was a nice looking Toshiba!

Except for my temper and it getting thrown across the room. I'm a film major and to use Final Cut Pro (the editing program), we have to use Macs. So much anger.

WAH! Changed my mind. I looked at that one again and I was kind of not liking the 13.3" screen. I'm also a touch typer and that doesn't have notches on the "f" and "J" keys for typing. I dunno. It was just annoying to type after a while. I found two new options:

Toshiba M645
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+...ustomerreviews

OR

Sony Vaio VPCEA46FM/V
Sony - VAIO Laptop / Intel® Core™ i3 Processor / 14" Display / 4GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive - Violet - VPCEA46FM/V

I still don't know how much I'll get back from my warranty. I'm guestimating (and kind of really hoping) between $500-600. The difference in price in those is $120. I think I can justify that. But that depends on how much I get back.

My bf works at Office Depot and said Blu-Ray players run hot and can fry the internal components. The reviews for a Vaio have nothing regarding that. The Toshiba's don't really mention it. Dunno if it's been fixed or not.
