Laptop Suggestions

I've got a sony vaio - although bigger screen (has a 17" display) and larger hard drive and it is THE BEST. Has the notches on f and j keys - I know what you mean for touch typing, I work off my laptop transcribing and they are a comfort I am glad to have.

I have to say it is the most un-problimatic laptop I've had yet , and it has survived being dropped down the stair well by a 2 year old :P .

I just got a Fujitsu Lifeboon Series N today. Has everything I need on it and has an amazing 18'' screen <3
So far it's been a dream to use. :)

Grrr! This is the third time I'm going to have to type this. The router decided to stop working for a spell and the computer wouldn't connect to the internet. I found out when I hit Reply.

None of the computer stores around here have Fujitsu laptops. I would only be able to shop online, which would drive me nuts not to be able to touch and play with it before I buy it, you know?

Does anyone have any thoughts on Asus laptops? They look nice, but I don't know anyone with one. I found one with the same specs as the Vaio (i5 processor, 640GB hard drive, etc) but without the BluRay player, making it $200 cheaper. I like its touchpad more than the Vaio's too. I wouldn't be mad if I could save $200.

What's your budget?

I should get $500 back from my laptop. Maybe a wee bit more.

They basically put it on a giftcard if I want to choose my own laptop (rather than them going "This is the equivalent of the one you had. Here."), so I pay the difference PLUS a new warranty so if I happen to kill it, I just repeat this process.

I would prefer to pay as little as possible. These numbers are WITH the money back from my Toshiba's warranty.

I would only have to pay $150 for the Asus, plus a $250 warranty. $400 total. Maybe a bit less.

I would pay almost $300 for the Vaio, plus a $270 warranty. $570 total, which is pushing it.

I have been through quite a few laptops. A year and a half (or so) ago, I gave up screwing around - saved up my money for a few extra months and bought a Macbook.

I will never go back to a PC. My parents are now looking at getting one after having to bring their PC laptop in for repairs half a dozen times now.

I refuseeee! Unless someone gives me a Macbook or I have no other option, I can't see myself owning one ever. Same with my problem with smartphones.

The main problem with mine was that it fell off my couch and busted one of the hinges, which jacked up my screen and had wiring exposed. And then my friend busted the keyboard..I still don't know how.

Ya Macs are good. :) My sister has the imac and I love using it when I go to her place! I actually am hoping to get a macbook for cegep. PC's are good too, (I have one at home), but I agree that macs have some nice advantages to them. :)

When eventually I move up to a Macbook Pro (read: win the lottery) I will send you this one. Then you will be sucked in to the Apple vortex!

Yikes! If it helps any, I dropped my Macbook on our tiled kitchen floor the other day and it's good as new. Though I think I got lucky... Oh, and don't forget that you won't have to buy an extra warranty with an Apple product.

Okay I'll stop now, lol. Does your new one have to be a Toshiba? Or is the giftcard for Best Buy or something? I haven't used one personally but I have heard HP makes good quality computer products. Like this? Hopefully that shows up for you, it's on a Canadian website..
