Oh my, mine did not cost nearly that much!
Maybe try an older model? I guess the newer ones (from 2016) are more expensive. On Amazon or something?

Okay. This is the one I'm looking at now. DH and I went to Best Buy yesterday to look at the laptops and this is the one I liked best. Don't need it to be convertible, but it's a nice bonus, especially for the price. Thoughts?

HP is great. :) The reviews look good as well, which is important.
That looks so nice! I love how it has that 360 feature. That's not a bad price either. Best Buy usually has the best deals. I think that's a steal, go for it! Plus, you got to check it out in person before buying it which is even better.

I really liked the keyboard, which is a big deal for me, since I type a lot.

My other contender is this one...don't need a terrabyte of storage, but can't beat the price...and it's camo. The size is kind of awkward, though. https://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Real-T...070wm/51397785

i would check out the different stores in your area, may be able to find one of the demo models on sale.

bought a new laptop this spring that was over 50% off because it was their floor model. same warranty as new out of the box just half the price. so far so good.

There's not many stores in my area, @tim62988 . Just one Best Buy and three Walmarts, really. None of them had any display models for sale.

My family had a few good HP laptops then around 2012ish a few of them got new ones and they are the worst laptops I have ever used. Not sure if its across the range but I would not touch a HP again.

I love my mac that died 3 weeks ago :( I'm completely devestated and had to borrow one of said HPs to complete my research - but the only PC that could tempt me is the Dell XPS 13.

I bought a demo model once and let me tell you NEVER EVER AGAIN!! The thing had more problems then I can even list. It wasn't useable in 2 years. It was a giant hunk of doodie!

I switched to a MacBook after that and it's AWESOME. Quick, clear, easy to use.

I had a Demo model Toshiba and that thing gave me so many problems. Sure its not be used used, but its been on idling and getting poked and used by careless people. You have kids banging on them. Never gonna get another.

I'm in love with Asus. Yet to meet an Asus I didn't like. They last too. My current one is 3 years old and has never had an issue.

Okay, I think I've actually decided on the second one (the camo one from Walmart). Thinking about the size of the screen and what I want to be able to do, it just makes more sense. A 13.6" laptop is nice and portable, but I'll be sitting on my couch most of the time anyway, plus with the 15.6" I can watch movies (it has a DVD drive) and I won't be struggling to see what I'm writing or what I'm playing (if I'm playing Fate). It's only 5lbs, so it's nice and light, too (my old laptop weighed a good 15+lbs...wish I was exaggerating, but my cats weighed as much as my laptop and they're 15 and 18lbs ). I also think the camo is different and cool. Since I'm not using it for work, I don't have to worry about it looking professional.
