Microsoft Surface vs Chromebook

Does anyone have either of these, or similar?
I ordered the Surface touch screen (with free removable touch key pad/cover) before I understood itís limitations of not being able to work with other internet browsers and Chromecast.
(Chromecast throws the computer screen signal wirelessly to my TV with a small plug in adapter so long as IĎm browsing with Chrome.)
The Surface only works with Windows/Microsoft apps, but in looking at their store they have everything I would want except Chrome and therefore Chromecast.

Iím not sure I want to keep it (havenít opened the box yet) and am looking at a regular Chromebook for slightly cheaper. It will allow me to Chromecast but they don't have touch screen (in my price range) which I like for reading books and magazines.

Itís possible my limping along laptop could still do Chromecast, but it's older and crashed some time back. It works, but I have to do factory resets about every 4 months or so and avoid any updates. Either one is going to be primarily for browsing the web, reading email, reading books and magazines, and streaming some network TV because IĎm dumping my satellite company.

Any feedback?
