If we talk about linux then Ubuntu is the best. I do agree that you can turn off those features from Vista however I do not see any major advancement in Vista over XP. Additionally when I mentioned that it asks questions on every step that was by keeping in mind of beginner users of computers and certainly of Vista.

If you dig down to Vista it has nothing much to offer over XP, there are few odd bits which you could compare however they wouldn't make one to seriously think Vista over XP.

As of Ubuntu that is one of the best OS I have seen under linux category.

I personally use Windows XP. I think windows 2000 is junk...and everything before it has the old file system...so that makes those OS obsolete. VISTA might be a good OS...but it simply hasnt been out long enough for them to make all the necessary adjustments and service packs that windows always has to make after they release a new OS.

Well Vista has sorted its nightmares by bringing SP1 out however it still has many issues. I think windows 2000 was very good as you could use NTFS file system over FAT32. Additionally it supported more features then Windows 95/98/98SE/ME.

Infact I still use Windows 2000 on one of my oldest Dell laptops because Windows XP just crawls on it. So the last best OS you can try is Windows 2000.
