What's going on with my Canon Rebel xS *help/vent*

Last weekend I used my canon rebel xs to take some BEAUTIFUL shoots of my friends swimming with their horses. This weekend I'm in lancaster county looking for photo ops. My girlfriend starts feeding a goat and I get a cute photo of her and the goat. I try to take another.... NOT WORKING!! The camera won't focus on anything (The focus just keeps going in and out) and I won't take photos unless on A-dep mode (which I'm not all that familiar with).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Now for my vent... I literally have nightmares where I leave my camera home on vacation or it breaks. I'm always in some remote location trying to buy a new one or attempting to get someone to ship it to me. This is like a dream come true!! So frustrating that I'm in a place with some amazing photo opertunites and I can take any!!

It's your lens not your camera. Try a different lens. My tamron lens has that issue.

I have three different lens and I've tried all of them. Originally that's what I thought the issues was.

When I first got my camera I played with all the settings so much I forgot to reset one of them.
I remember searching the manual to reset all back to factory default.
